The Girls Swimming team competed well this past season with several outstanding performances. The squad continued to improve under the direction of Coach Benson and really began to peak toward the end of the season.

The following individuals qualified for the Class 1 State Meet

Breanna Wilkinson took home 4th place in the 100 Butterfly to earn an All State Medal for the 2nd year in a row.

Girls Wrestling

The Rockwood Summit Girls Wrestling Team had 20 young ladies come out for our squad this year. Of the 12 Wrestlers that we sent to Districts, 9 of those were first year wrestlers. The Falcons Qualified 4 individual wrestlers for the Class 2 State Meet in Columbia.

Madeline Haynes became Rockwood Summit’s First Female Wrestling State Champion defeating Alexis Dunwiddie from Jefferson City 5-0 in the Finals. Madeline was a 3x State runner up, but finally got the job done and finished her Senior season with a record of 48-0.

Rockwood Summit also had two other wrestlers medal. Freshman Addison St. George took home a 5th place medal in the 110lb weight class, while Junior Kamauri Fowler took home a 4th place medal in the 235lb weight class. The Lady Falcons finished in 9th place as a team, their second top 10 finish in school history.

Silver Stars Dance Team

We also wanted to highlight our Varsity Silver Stars Dance Team. They competed in the State Competition recently as the Family Arena in St. Charles.

The Dance team took home the Class 4 Team State Championship. They finished 2nd in Precision Jazz and 2nd in Game Day, earning the first overall spot.

These ladies work so hard and we are always proud of their accomplishment.

Madeline Haynes finished her senior year with a record of 48-0 and a State Championship

Oakville High School

Oakville – Girls Wrestling

Oakville High School started an all girls wrestling program 4 years ago. As a Senior, Talia Reed won a District Championship making school history. Paving the road for those behind her, Talia will be the first girl wrestler to represent the Tigers at the collegiate level when she attends Missouri Baptist University next year.

Keeping the bar set high, Sophomore Olivia Romano is making a name for herself as well. Live took 3rd place at Districts and found herself one win away from a medal at the State Tournament. She officially is the first female wrestler to make day two!

Wrestling

Camron Duffield – State Champion 138 lbs. Most points in the state tournament for all weight classes. Youngest state champion in school history

Swim and Dive

The girls’ swim and dive team wrapped up their season at the Class 2 State Championship this past weekend. Campbell McCool took home 14th place in the 100 Freestyle earning All-State Honorable Mention honors. The 400 Freestyle Relay of Alivia Cook, Emily Cichacki, Campbell, and Lexi Cook placed 8th and earned All-State Honors.

Lexi Cook took home a ton of individual accolades from the weekend as well. She is the newest Patriot State Champion in the 200 Freestyle and the 500 Freestyle. Her time in the 200 Freestyle broke her own school record. Her time in the 500 Freestyle missed the STATE record by exactly one second, rebroke her own school record, AND qualified her to be an automatic all-american as one of the top 100 swimmers in the country. She was also named the Class 2 Swimmer of the Year for the State of Missouri. AND she’s only a junior!

Ava McCulla set the all time career scoring and rebound records at South High.

The winter season came and went much faster than I expected due to all the activities and events that we hosted throughout the winter months. Our biggest event that we hosted was in collaboration with Bayless School District where we were able to raise over $3,000 for an alumni, a veteran and former teammate who recently passed away from lung cancer. Tim Smith, class of 1997, was an Iraq war vet and philanthropist that started businesses employing veterans once they returned from or retired from service. His story and the event were featured on the news and he was also able to sell several more copies of his book, A Patriot’s American Dream, with his family, friends and teammates at his side during the event.

zoom_out_map

As far as the winter season goes our wrestling team was able to win their first conference championship for the boys in over 20 years while finishing 4th overall in Districts and sending 5 wrestlers to State. The team grew in size and was also able to win the Southside Classic and Hancock Havoc Tournaments. The team is composed of a lot of young athletes so the future looks very bright.

zoom_out_map

Boys Basketball was also a very young team that had some success and will continue to grow over the next few years. Girls Basketball was under the leadership of a new head coach and several new assistant coaches. They competed well and all enjoyed the season and the friendships they made throughout their time together. Girls swim made huge improvements over their season as well and showed well in all of the events they competed in both during the season and in conference.

We had four of our Seniors sign to continue their athletic careers after high school on national signing day with three more Seniors committed and ready to have their signings next month. We had a variety of sport signings including football, boys soccer, girls soccer, girls ice hockey, girls volleyball, cheerleading and cross country.

From our music department, we are sending three of our soloists to State to compete after receiving an “Outstanding” rating from the Small Ensemble and Soloists event held at Parkway Central. This was also our first year sending our band and orchestra students to compete at the festivals showing their willingness to grow and put themselves out there. Those two programs are also under new leadership and we could not be more excited about what the future holds for all of our music programs.

BASKETBALL (BOYS)

The Suburban Recap: PCBB 24-25

The Parkway Central Boys Basketball ‘23-24 team graduated 8 seniors, including Oliver Kokal, who scored 1759 career points and moved on to play Division 1 basketball at the University of South Dakota. The ‘24-25 team returned 3 players with varsity experience: senior point guard Dillon Harris, junior forward Henry Kokal, and junior shooting guard Miles Rain. On Talk 4 Tyler Night, the Colts defeated Parkway North 50-40 and raised over $7000 to be donated to the C.H.A.D.S. Coalition and the Tyler Wessel Memorial Scholarship. The rest of the season proved challenging. Henry Kokal suffered a knee injury in the next game against Parkway West and missed 14 games before returning. The Colts battled through a difficult schedule, stuck together, and kept fighting to improve. Late in the season, the Colts found their stride, winning consecutive games against St. Charles West and Troy Buchanan on Dillon Harris’ Senior Night. In the first round of districts, the Colts fought hard but ultimately fell to John Burroughs.

The team will look to carry the lessons learned through adversity into next season. The entire team returns, with the exception of Dillon Harris, who averaged 14.5 points and 3 assists. Dillon finished 23rd in PC history in career points with 629, 22nd in steals with 72, 16th in assists with 164, 10th in 3-pointers made with 78, and 9th in career FT% at 71%. He will be difficult to replace! Henry Kokal averaged 14.6 points, 9 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks. Henry finished the season strong, averaging 18 points and 14 rebounds in the last 4 games, including two 20 rebound games. Miles Rain was the 3rd-leading scorer at 10.2 points per game, and made 55 3-pointers. Newcomers Colin Applebaum and Danelli January both chipped in 6 points per game. Applebaum was 2nd on the team in rebounds with 6.3 per game. Chase Smith-Barnes and Paul Brown were both big contributors in ways that don’t show up in the box score and on the defensive end. The Colts hope to use the offseason to grow closer as a team and be much improved heading into the ‘25-26 season.

BASKETBALL (GIRLS)

The Parkway Central Girls’ Basketball team returned five players from our ‘23-’24 district runner-up team. The beginning of the season included some growing pains as players figured out their roles and became comfortable playing with each other. As the season progressed, it was evident that this was truly a special group of girls. The Colts had an incredible six-game winning streak over an 11-day period, which included winning the 45th annual Queen of Hearts Tournament at Villa Duchesne. Sadie Levy, Rachel Vance, Kiera Gravely, and Maddie Schaefer were all honored on the all-tournament team. The Colts finished with a 12-15 record, playing a daunting schedule that included games against six teams that made the finals of their district tournaments. Beyond the schedule, the team showed an inspiring sense of unity and commitment to each other that will leave a lasting impact on seasons to come.

Individually, the accolades from this season were truly impressive. Sadie Levy finishes her career as the most accomplished individual in school history. Sadie holds the school record for most three-pointers in a career (194), most three-pointers in a game (9), most steals in a season (169), and most steals in a career (425). She is 3rd all-time in program history with 1,243 points and 3rd in assists with 227. She also earned 1st-Team All-Conference this season. Maddie Schaefer truly embraced her role as a major contributor this year and earned 2nd-Team All-Conference as she averaged 9.5 points, 6 rebounds, and 3.2 steals. She was one of only 5 girls in the entire metro area above those thresholds for those stats. Rachel Vance and Rachel Wahl finished the season with the 17th and 18th most rebounds in program history. Rachel Wahl also had the 2nd most rebounds ever in a game with 20 in the district loss to Parkway North.

The four seniors, Kiera Gravely, Kaitlyn Katz, Sadie Levy, and Rachel Vance have had an indelible impact on our program and have set the standard incredibly high for the underclassmen. We are so proud of them and will continue to work to make them proud for seasons to come.

CHEER

The Parkway Central Cheer team ended their 24-25 season with a new tradition for our graduating senior, Jessica Shyres, by signing the cheer mats. Jessica will be attending SLU in the fall; we will miss her so much! The girls had a great time cheering on the Girls and Boys Basketball teams this year. We can’t wait to support our Central athletes this fall. Go Colts!

DANCE TEAM

The Varsity Coltline was busy with Basketball and competition season the last few months. They also hosted their first Dance Invitational which was a HUGE success. The snow couldn’t keep us from celebrating our seniors at senior night as well.

The team competed at Lindbergh and received a 3rd place for the Hip hop routine. The Annual Guy / Girl routine was terrific. They guys worked hard and team looked AMAZING dancing to our home crowd. Thanks to the seniors for a fun and creative routine.

At State we were hit with the flu bug and were missing some of our seniors but they pushed through and placed 6th in Pom and 2nd in Hip hop. The team experienced adversity and learned to adjust quickly that day to change. The team is now gearing up for their Banquet and to celebrate the team and their successes this year. We would like to once again give a shout out to our seniors Ande, Amanda, Allie and Jordyn and wish them the best on their new ADVENTURES!

Fox Boys Basketball 2024-2025 Season Review

There was a lot of change coming into this season for the Fox Warriors. In my first year as head coach, we had several players from last year’s team that did not rejoin the program, leaving our varsity with one returning player with varsity experience, Sophomore Jude Pribish. That meant a number of players would have to fill varsity roles playing Class 6 basketball, whether they were ready to or not. Pribish also had to carry the load for the offense and did so by logging the most minutes of any other player. He did so by leading the team with a 15.6 points per game average and pulling down 6 rebounds per game as well. Jude was not the only player who needed to step into a varsity role. Cameron Aikens, another Sophomore, would also have to become a prominent fixture in the lineup. Aikens finished the season averaging 8 points per game and leading the team in rebounding.

Throughout the season, our varsity struggled to find its footing and adjust to new roles and higher levels of competition. Despite finishing with a 5-21 varsity record, our program had plenty of bright spots that show how our program has the potential of doing great things. I’m excited about the future and look forward to a great offseason ahead!

Girls Wrestling

The 24-25 Fox Girls Wrestling Program has continued to see a lot of growth this season. As a team, the program has grown from 14 girls in 22-23 to 18 girls this season. This team consisted of 12 returning girls and 6 freshmen. The leadership and dedication of the upperclassman set a benchmark that the underclassmen were willing to follow. In addition, the school held its second annual girls varsity wrestling tournament, “Fox Lady Warriors Invitational”. The tournament grew from 7 teams in 23-24 to 15 teams in 24-25. The girls program also held the first ever Lady Warriors 9/10 Tournament. The Lady Warriors took 1st place out of 10 teams, showing the depth and growth of the program. All of the girls gained knowledge with more competition on and off the mat this season. The Lady Warriors also sent two state qualifiers to the MSHSAA state tournament in 24-25.

The Fox Lady Warriors wrapped up their season with a 7-18 record, demonstrating resilience, growth, and some outstanding individual achievements along the way.

The team made a strong showing at the Southside Classic, securing a 3rd-place finish with standout performances from Izzy Frissell, who earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team. At the Hillsboro Tournament, the Lady Warriors battled tough competition to finish in 6th place, with Lois Pippin earning All-Tournament Team honors for her exceptional play.

One of the highlights of the season was the opportunity to compete at the prestigious Norm Stewart Classic at Mizzou Arena. It was there that Izzy Frissell made history, setting a new school record with an incredible 12 steals in a single game, showcasing her defensive tenacity.

Throughout the season, multiple players set career highs across various statistical categories, proving the team’s continuous improvement and determination. While the record may not fully reflect their hard work, the Lady Warriors showed heart, teamwork, and growth that will carry them into future seasons.

Steam has performed very well this season in one of the toughest schedules in class 4, led by a cast of Junior standout players Tyesha Phillips, Kayden Day & Bria Moore. Guard Tyesha Phillips led the team in scoring averaging 12.3 points per game & 5 rebounds per game. Point guard & captain Bria Moore played a major role in the teams success as she propelled the team on the offensive and defensive end of the court leading the team in assists while averaging 9.1 points per game. The future of Steam Basketball is in good hands as the team will return 8 of 11 key contributors in 2025-26 season. Special thanks to the Steam Academy seniors Mariah Cole, Aniyah Simpson & Jordyn Ivy for their contributions to the Steam Academy Basketball Program.

The STEAM girls wrestling program made history this season, earning their place among the top teams in the region. The team captured it’s first-ever conference championship with a line-up consisting of all underclassmen except one.

Individually, the season was equally historic as sophomore Nyia Ross became STEAM’s first state medalist, securing an impressive 5th place finish at 110 lbs. Her achievement marks a new standard for the program and serves as inspiration for future wrestlers.

From tough battles on the mat to relentless training sessions, every member of the team contributed to this season’s success. This championship and state medal are only the beginning. STEAM girls wrestling plans to build a legacy of excellence.

Congratulations to all the wrestlers, coaches, and supporters who made this season unforgettable!

Emily Lovercheck named new Athletic administrator at Parkway West High School for 2025-26

Emily is completing her 18th year in education this year and her ninth right here at West High. Emily is already assisting in the activities and athletics office, she is one of our current student council sponsors, she assists our boys’ soccer team, and she is the head coach of our Women’s Lacrosse program. Emily was named by USA Lacrosse as Missouri-Saint Louis’s Coach of the Year in 2024. In addition to this, Emily has been a fierce advocate for teachers as a building PNEA rep, a district Key Communicator, participant in Parkway’s Future Leaders program, and a peer teacher sponsor.

Emily is an ever-present member of our school team currently, and we are very excited to see her transition into an administrative role supporting all members of our staff in different ways. Members of the interview team noted Emily’s commitment to the people of Parkway West, her desire to make this a better place, her passion for this place and for her work with our students. They also commented on her being the epitome of a team player, someone who understands and is empathetic to the needs of our coaches, sponsors, and students, and someone who will advocate for all.

Emily is excited to begin this role and take on these new challenges. She knows the work will not be easy but is committed to building on existing relationships to drive us forward. She will be soaking up all she can within the Activities and Athletics Office the rest of the year.

Boys Basketball:

The Huskies finished with an overall record of 10-16 and 5-4 in the Suburban-Green pool, this marks the first year after moving up from the Suburban-Red pool. The decision was made to move up after winning the red pool in 2022-23. The Huskies were in virtually every game, but sustaining our efforts for the entirety of the game proved to be the biggest issue. The kids worked extremely hard, and the foundation has been set regarding what Husky basketball should and will look like in the future. Seven seniors are graduating in total, 2 of whom were injured [Alex Robinson & Miles Weicht] all season. Senior Tai-Shaun Ewing received 1st team all conference honors while Jeremiah Thomas, Shayn Bishop, and Stephen Lipsey all received honorable mention. Shayn was also voted to the conference’s all-defensive team as he took on the toughest assignment every game. Michael Capone was the team’s most improved player, while Ewing and Bishop were co-MVPs for the season.

Girls Basketball:

This season presented unique challenges for our basketball program as we transitioned to a junior varsity (JV) team due to a lack of participation at the varsity level. Despite this change, our players demonstrated resilience, commitment, and a passion for growth, embodying the values of teamwork and perseverance throughout the season. Season Highlights Team Development: The smaller team size allowed for more individualized coaching, leading to noticeable improvements in fundamental skills such as ball handling, shooting, and defensive strategies. Player Growth: Many players took on leadership roles, stepped out of their comfort zones, and gained valuable game experience to benefit the program in future seasons. Key Challenge Participation: This season’s primary challenge was the reduced number of players, which limited our ability to maintain a full/varsity team. Team Dynamics: Adapting to new roles and responsibilities required significant adjustments for players and coaches. Schedule Adjustments: Transitioning to a JV team meant changes to the schedule, including competing against teams with varying skill levels. Achievements and Milestones Player Recognition: Tamari Allen was faced with a difficult season; she had to lead four freshmen & one sophomore who never played high school basketball. Tamari accepted the challenges. The Most Improved Player, Gabby Futrell; Team Captain Award, Tamari Allen; Husky Award, Dhakirah Woods

Boys Wrestling:

This was a year of change for the Boys Wrestling team as the Boys and Girls split, and they had a new head coach for the first time in 5 years. The team gained knowledge of how the team will now run, along with new expectations. There were some growing pains, but by the end of the year, the boys knew what to expect and that this change was for the better of the team and their abilities as wrestlers and students. The numbers that we ended with were small, but the work ethic and effort were beginning to take shape. Those who will be coming back know that there is much to learn and gain, but are willing to put the work in, which is going to be needed. There is excitement about what can be accomplished. The team ended with James Hagler-Young qualifying for the state championship. He earned wrestler of the year honors. He and Yehoshua Magwood were also named 2nd team all-conference. The outlook is bright for the returners next year.

Girls Wrestling:

Girls’ wrestling has come a long way. The complete line-up includes 14 weight classes, from 100 lbs to 235 lbs. Ritenour girls started the year with seven girls only filling half the weight classes. The girls were wrestling so well that even with half a team they would finish near the top at most tournaments. As the season progressed, we lost 2 of the girls to injuries and had 5 girls go to the district tournament. Three of those five qualified to advance to the state tournament. There were 22 schools in our district and with just five girls Ritenour took 8th place as a team.

Ritenour had 2 first-team all-conference Calli Hodges and Kresean Buchanan, and 2 second-team all-conference Julia Nunez and Egpyt Draper, and an honorable mention for Tori Beard.

These girls wrestled well all season. They worked together to build each other up and pushed each other toward greatness. I learned more from them this year than they will ever know.

All five of these girls have plans after high school. Julia will be wrestling at Colby College in Kanas next year.

Wrestling is not easy, but I know whatever these girls plan to do they will get it done. We look forward to seeing great things in their futures.

Next year will be a rebuilding year for the lady Huskies. However, they will do their best to compete and send more girls to the state tournament and stand on the podium.

Girls Swm:

The Huskies had a great season, finishing 10-7 overall. At the conference swim meet, Ritenour swimming would battle with our six strong swimmers and come out in third place overall. What an awesome meet for the Huskies! We had 12 personal bests at the season’s final meet, and the girls fought for each of their finishes. This is the first team I have ever had where each member walked away with a First Team All-Conference honor in at least one event. I could not be prouder of all they accomplished this season. The Huskies are losing great leadership and athleticism in our three seniors, Audrey Buttry, Saphira Carson, and Ty Frost. Our conference finishes are as follows:

200 Medley Relay – Ritenour, 3rd place, First Team All-Conference for Ty Frost, Julissa Moreno Ruiz, Audrey Buttry, and Melany de la Pena

200 Free – Sara Hernandez, 9th place, All-Conference Honorable Mention

200 IM – Julissa Moreno Ruiz, 4th place, First Team All-Conference

50 Free – Ty Frost, 2nd place, First Team All-Conference

100 Fly – Audrey Buttry, 3rd place, First Team All-Conference

100 Free – Melany de la Pena, 7th place, All-Conference Honorable Mention

500 Free – Audrey Buttry, 4th place, First Team All-Conference

200 Free Relay – Ritenour, 3rd place, First Team All-Conference Ty Frost, Saphira Carson, Melany de la Pena, and Julissa Moreno Ruiz

100 Back – Ty Frost, 2nd place, First Team All-Conference, Saphira Carson, 10th place, All-Conference Honorable Mention

100 Breast – Julissa Moreno Ruiz, 3rd place, First Team All-Conference

400 Free Relay – Ritenour, 4th place, First Team All-Conference for Audrey Buttry, Saphira Carson, Sara Hernandez, and Melany de la Pena

Awesome season, Huskies!

Dance:

The Rhythmettes Dance Team expanded this year/season. We were also blessed to have a former Rhythmettes, Diamond Perks, return to the team as a choreographer and transitioned into an Asst. Coach. The team was able to participate in learning various dance styles, from majorette style dance to jazz and learning techniques. The season was completed by acknowledging two seniors on the team, Aariyah Stimage and Corielle Bufford. The remainder of the team is looking forward to focusing on competition and showcase events.
