STEAMAcademy

The 2023-2024 wrestling season for the girls’ team has been a testament to talent, growth, and the indomitable spirit of our athletes. From seasoned veterans to promising newcomers, each member of our team has shown that perseverance pays off. This season, our girls’ wrestling team welcomed a cohort of talented newcomers who quickly made their mark on the mat. Freshman Zakiyaa Humbles-Walls and Kellsey Dainels demonstrated their exceptional skill and determination, picking up several wins in their inaugural season and showcased the potential for greatness in the years to come. Junior Brianna Ramspot entered the season with no prior wrestling experience but quickly emerged as one of the hardest workers in the room. She made significant improvements with each match. Her dedication, perseverance, and commitment to excellence are a testament to the transformative power of hard work and determination. Chelsey Beohmer’s remarkable season was characterized by a series of breakthrough performances, culminating in a string of victories that greatly surpassed her previous season’s achievements. La’Tahvia Williams epitomized consistency and excellence throughout her wrestling career, showcasing her talent and skill at every tournament she entered. As a two-time state qualifier, La’Tahvia’s achievements are a testament to her drive to be great.

The 2023-2024 wrestling season for the STEAM Academy at McCluer South Berkeley boys’ team has been nothing short of historic, marked by a great turnout, remarkable achievements, and a start to a legacy of excellence. From the opening whistle to the final match, our wrestlers have exemplified the core values of determination, resilience, and teamwork, leaving a mark on the wrestling mat and in the hearts of fans and competitors alike.

The team showcased their competitive prowess by securing medalists in every tournament they competed in this season. From thrilling victories to hard-fought battles, our wrestlers demonstrated skill, tenacity, and sportsmanship on the mat, earning commendations and admiration from peers and opponents alike.

In a display of dominance and determination, the boys’ team clinched victory in the Superintendent’s Cup, prevailing over rivals McCluer North and McCluer. This prestigious achievement not only underscores the talent and dedication of our wrestlers but also serves as a testament to the improvement that the athletes are committed to.

Four of our exceptional wrestlers—Shawn Smith (126), Aduen Matson(144), Tre’Vyon Chatman(165), and Dorrian Armstrong (150)—qualified for the state tournament, showcasing their prowess on the grandest stage of high school wrestling. Among our state tournament qualifiers, Tre’Vyon Chatman distinguished himself by securing a commendable sixth-place finish in the fiercely contested 165-pound weight class. His achievement is a testament to his skill, grit, and resilience, as well as a source of inspiration for his teammates and peers.

As we bid farewell to this extraordinary season, we do so with heads held high, hearts full of pride, and a deep sense of gratitude for everyone who has supported and contributed to our journey. Together, we will continue to continue the proud traditions of the STEAM Academy at McCluer South Berkeley wrestling program, striving for excellence and pursuing greatness.

Conboy also became just the ninth player in program history to reach the 1,000 point threshold.

Boys Basketball

The Flyers finished 22-6 on the season, the best program finish since 1970. They were featured in the Class 6 boys basketball state rankings for several weeks as well. Other season highlights include a 69-46 win on Senior Night and a Lindbergh Invitational first place finish. Seniors Zac Goss and Quinn Sunderland were named to the all-tournament team. This season also featured several individual highlights. Elizabeth Williams broke into the program’s top 10 career wins leaderboard. Audrey Scherer and Ellie Poulette each earned district titles, with Scherer becoming the first four-time district champion in program history. For Poulette, it was her first district title. Both competed in the Class 2 girls’ tournament, with Scherer coming home with a third place finish in her weight class.

Their strong finish at the state level made them heavy favorites to win the girl’s national championship. The 2024 USA Racquetball High School National Championship took place over five days at Vetta Sports Concord and Vetta Sports West in St. Louis. Lindbergh came away from the competition with their best performance to date. Overall, LHS finished second place in the nation. The girls team finished second, the boys in third. Eli McCulley, Jonathan Bell, Ella Boaz, and Sally Wildhaber were named All-Americans. Bell and McCulley took first place in Boys Doubles #1. McCulley teamed up with Boaz to also take home the title in Mixed Doubles #1. Both also finished third place in the nation in their individual events. In total, LHS racquetball took home 22 medals during the national competition. Head coach and Lindbergh parent Joshua Jones received the U.S. Olympic Committee/USA Racquetball Developmental Coach of the Year award, accepting the award on March 3 at the National Championship award ceremony.

Band

At the recent MSHSAA Large Ensemble Festival, all three LHS bands received exemplary ratings. At the MSHSAA Solo and Small Ensemble Festival, both the woodwind and brass choirs received exemplary ratings as well. 102 total solo and small ensemble band, choir, and orchestra events represented LHS during the event. Of those 102, 51 events earned exemplary ratings and are eligible to participate in the state Solo/Small Ensemble Festival. In addition, The LHS pep band was recently asked to fill in for the Valparaiso University pep band during the Missouri Valley Conference men’s basketball tournament. The band did an excellent job representing the high school, and was invited to be a substitute pep band in the future! The LHS Jazz Ensemble was named “Command Performance” band of the day at the Mizzou Jazz Fest on Saturday, Feb. 17! Harper Tochtrop and Ben Koller were recognized as Outstanding Soloists. This annual jazz festival brings together the finest junior high and high school instrumentalists, highly qualified and respected jazz adjudicators, and top-quality clinicians.

Orchestra

During the MSHSAA Large Ensemble Festival hosted at LHS, all three Lindbergh orchestras earned exemplary ratings from the judge.

Boys Wrestling

Affton Boys’ Wrestling qualified three wrestlers to the State Tournament this winter. Juniors Mercury Clark and Antonio Muyco lead the way for the Cougars, finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively. Freshman Kyle Andres also qualified, placing 4that the district tournament.

Girls Wrestling

The Affton Girls’ Wrestling program saw its best individual result in program history this season. Senior Issac Hudson was a district champion for the Cougars, finishing with a program record 55 wins this winter. The Cougars also were the Blue Pool Suburban Conference champions, and coach Devon Ford won coach of the year for the conference.

Boys Basketball

The Boys’ Basketball Cougars started off the season in an exciting manner, finishing second in the Southside Basketball Tournament following a runner-up finish to Lindbergh. The Cougars hung tough all year, and finished with a double-digit win season as well as a semi-final finish in the district tournament.

Girls Basketball

The Girls’ Basketball Cougars won a 2nd Affton Girls’ Basketball Tournament in a row after defeating Windsor in the final day of the tournament. Despite some injuries, the Cougars remained a tough opponent all season, falling in the semi-finals of districts to the eventual district champion. On February 7th, the Girls’ Basketball program hosted nearly 100 current and former Affton female athletes for the National Women’s in Sport Day celebration, which was a tremendously successful event!

BASKETBALL (BOYS)

The Parkway Central Boys Basketball team returned 8 seniors from their 22-23 district runner-up team. The team got off on the right foot in the Linneman Classic, defeating Parkway South and then Parkway West on Talk 4 Tyler Night. In addition to defeating the Longhorns, the Colts raised over $4000 to be donated to the C.H.A.D.S. Coalition for Mental Health and the Tyler Wessel Memorial Scholarship. The Colts finished 5th in the MICDS Tournament, winning 3 out of 4 games, and found their stride in January with six victories in a row, including a great 57-55 defeat of Lindbergh on Jr. Colts Night to run their record to 11-5.

Down the stretch, the Colts battled injuries to key players and struggled to regain their mid-season form as a result. They finished with a record of 14-13, and their season ended in the district tournament with a loss to Westminster. Senior Oliver Kokal led the team in scoring and rebounding with 21.2 ppg and 6.6 rebounds. He finished as the 2nd leading scorer in Parkway Central history with 1759 career points and 4th all-time in rebounding with 698 career rebounds. He will be remembered as one of the best to ever play at PCH and has signed to play Division 1 basketball next year at the University of South Dakota! The Colts were paced by junior PG Dillon Harris’ 7.9 ppg and 2.3 assists, and sophomore forward Henry Kokal’s 5.2 ppg and 5.4 rebounds. Both will be called upon to lead the Colts into next season.

BASKETBALL (GIRLS)

The Parkway Central Girls Basketball team was coming off a district runner-up finish from the season before. While the Colts had four seniors graduate from last year’s team, they returned some key contributors and welcomed a very talented and hard-working freshman class this year. The Colts played a tough schedule and finished the season with a record of 13-16, with 4th-place finishes in both the Lutheran South tournament and the Queen of Hearts tournament. This young and hungry team also made it all the way back to the district championship game, where they were defeated by Parkway West to close out the season.

Individually, the Colts had a lot to be proud of as well. Both of our returning seniors, Kaitlyn King and Ellie Sioumcas, embraced their expanded roles and were vital leaders on this very young team. Junior point guard Sadie Levy finished the season with 169 steals, which led the metro area and is a school record for steals in a season. Freshman Aziza Hendricks also had a historic season. She finished with 441 points, which is the 8th most in program history, and 312 rebounds, which is the 3rd most in program history. Another freshman, Maddie Schaefer, set the freshman record with 51 steals this season. The future of this program is very bright, and the Colts are excited to build on back-to-back second-place finishes in districts.

CHEER

The PCH Cheer Team kickstarted the season at NCA Cheer Camp starting with several celebrations. Throughout cheer camp, the cheer team earned top blue and red ribbons on evaluations and also earned a Technical Excellence Award for Props during their Game Day Evaluation. Throughout camp, the team worked hard and earned 1st Place Top Team Band Chant on the final day competitions and two new All-American Cheerleaders, Elaina Malt and Brooke Williams, with an amazing performance that wowed the crowd and fellow PCH Alumni.

Shortly after camp, the cheer team began preparing for football season by welcoming families back to school at Shenandoah Valley Elementary School and hosting the annual Junior Colts Clinic. During football season, all the girls had a lot of fun making banners and arranging candy for the other team’s senior cheerleaders. In October, we celebrated seniors Elaina Malt, Julia Engelhardt, Sara Ellen, and April Zhang on senior night and started to make plans for the playoff games.

Currently, the PCH Cheerleaders are gearing up for basketball season and will also be entering the Game Day State competition for the first time this year. Let’s go Colts!

Dance Team

The Parkway Central Dance Team welcomed a new coach this year, Brittney Korte, as we began our second year as a strictly Varsity team. The fall season was a success for PCDT as the team’s upperclassmen choreographed dances for the home football games and the pep rally!

The team is preparing for a winter season full of basketball games and competitions. Basketball season will include our Junior Colts Dance clinic and game, as well as our Annual Guy-Girl Dance. We will be competing at three local competitions, including the MDTA State Championships in Kansas City, Missouri in February.

Our ONE AND ONLY senior this year is Zoe Snitzer. She is such a great leader, and we are enjoying our last year with her! Zoe is also our captain this year. Co-captains are juniors Amanda Gubernik and Ande McNew.

WRESTLING (BOYS and GIRLS)

This was year three of the new wrestling program under Coach Drew Lilledahl and it was a huge success! We had a diverse group of kids. Wrestlers from all backgrounds came together to try their best to adhere to the program standards of showing up and trying hard! Our creed is Dream Big, Work Hard, Haver Fun! There are bigger things to come for the future of Colts Wrestling!

LadueHighSchool

Girls Swimming: The Ladue Rams Girls Swimming and Diving Team finished their terrific season with a 6th place finish at the MSHSAA Class 1 State Championships on February 15th and 16th. Beating last year’s 7th place, 120-point performance, the Rams performed superbly and raised their game to 6th place, scoring 130 points. That total turned out to be only 4 points shy of 4th place! History was also made at this meet, as the 200 medley relay broke their existing school record by over one second (Hsieh, Bezzant, Ta, Willmann). In addition, Mary Joyce Bezzant defended her state title in the 100 breaststroke, leaving no doubt that she is in the top 3 of Ladue swimmers of all time. Mary is now the owner of three such gold medals, having won the 200 IM in 2022 as well.

Wrestling: The Rams took 3 boys to the state tournament, two of which were returning qualifiers. Once again, the rams were struck with difficult draws in the first round. Shaun Roberts was the lone victor in the opening round. Unfortunately for Jimmy Rowe and Jacob Winbush, they drew a returning state champion, and a future state champion in the opening round. Each of those boys ended up going 0-2, however being in the top 16 in the state is an impressive feat in itself. Roberts 2nd round was against the future state champion and lost a tough match. Shaun then entered the wrestlebacks where he was in a back and forth battle that he ended up on the wrong side of the results. For the three boys, each of which wrestled, at most, 3 seasons, qualifying for the state championships is again, difficult and impressive. These boys had quite the season and careers. Shaun and Jimmy both have made the top 10 in career takedowns, and Jimmy now owns the Ladue record for most pins in a season.

Boys Basketball: This team earned the best record in the regular season in Ladue history with a 24-2 record. They won two tournament championships and they also were conference champs in a tough league going undefeated. This team also tied the school record for the most wins in a season. They were also the first team in Ladue history to play Vashon in the regular season which says a lot about our program. There is a lot to be proud of!

Girls Basketball: The Ladue Girls basketball program finished the 2023-2024 season with their first district win in four years!! The junior varsity team finished the year 17-4 and comprised a younger class that developed comradery and grit throughout the year. The varsity team ended the season 16-10. There were many obstacles overcome throughout the season and this group worked hard, fought for each other, and put forth their best effort daily. We look forward to the continued growth of this young group!

GIRLS SWIM/DIVE:

The CHS Girls Swim and Dive Team had another really successful season in the pool. The team went 11-0 on the year, and brought home the Conference Championship. The team then headed to St. Peters for the MHSAA State Championship. They took 2nd in the state and missed the top of the podium by only 1.5 points.

BOYS BASKETBALL:

The team had another historic winter winning 12 games in a row late in the season, and finishing 19-9. They surpassed the previous record of 10 wins in a row set back in 2000. They also won the Conference Championship going undefeated in conference play (7-0).

GIRLS BASKETBALL:

The girls team also had an amazing going 18-8 and winning the Conference Championship. They also went undefeated in conference play going 6-0.

Girls Wrestling

The Wildcat’s girls wrestling program is growing. We had 3 girls last year to 14 girls this year. Head Coach Harris also added our 1st female coach, Monique Goris, who is a former Lindenwood wrestler, to his staff. Here experience and expertise bring a different perspective to our team. This team was made up of all 1st year wrestlers except 1. They started their season at the Wonder Women Rookie Tournament going 8-0 in the first round. Tamia Coleman-Hawkins finished 3rd in districts and qualified to represent the Wildcats at the Sate meet.

Girls Basketball

The girls’ basketball program has new head coach Damien Rogers, who led them to an undefeated pool record and winning the Green Conference Pool Championship. Coach Rogers won Conference Pool Coach of the Year. Julia Downs and Trinity Crumer were named to 1st team all-conference, and London Beard and Day’Ona Collins were named to 2nd team all-conference.

Girls Swim

The girls swim team is rebuilding. We had five swimmers and majority of them were newcomers to competitive swimming. All of the swimmers progressed throughout the season. The team members swam their fastest times at the conference meet. The girls had lots of fun throughout the season. Coach Morris is looking to add more swimmers next year.

Wrestling

This year’s wrestling program was under new leadership. Stephen Bourke was hired right before the season started. He hit the mat running. The team was led by two seniors Jared Martin and Lawyer Allen. The team was hit hard with the injury bug, which led to only the two seniors finishing the season. Jared Martin had his best tournament at the Priory Invitational. He finished 2nd place.

This team generated a lot of buzz around the St. Louis area and the community of University City enjoyed the excitement. The boys started the season with a big win in the MICDS Championship game over the host school MICDS. Then they accomplished something that hadn’t been done since 2012. The boys team beat Lutheran North to win the Class 4 District 6 Championship. The season ended with a lost to the eventual state champion Vashon in the Sectional Round. Sophomore Jael Green was voted District player of the year and 1st team all- conference. Senior Ehress Cunningham Peoples made the all district team and was also voted 1st team all- conference.
