WINTER 22-23 Season Review – RITENOUR HS

Ritenour Huskies Girls BBALL 22-23

Girls Basketball:

Girl’s basketball had its first winning season since the 2013-2014 season, winning a total of 15 games, tripling its win total of only 5 from last season in the second year of leadership by head coach Darren Wade. The varsity team finished with a record of 15-9, losing to Pattonville in the first round of district play. Girl’s basketball also saw the return of its JV program which finished the season at 8-6, winning 7 of their last 8 games with a 1-point overtime loss being the only blemish on their record during that stretch.

Boys BBALL Ritenour 22-23

Boys Basketball:

In the second season under Coach George Lee the Huskies improved from 5-17 the previous year to a whopping 16-7 while going 7-0 in conference play.  Lee was named Conference and District Coach of the Year, while Rah-Sheed Taggert was named Conference Player of the Year.  Grayson Rogers was selected to the 1st team for the second year in a row and Jaylan Patterson and Kevon Moore were selected to the 2nd team.  Shayn Bishop was chosen for the Conference Sportsmanship award.  Saraun Thomas, Alex Robinson, Tai-Shaun Ewing, & Shayn Bishop all received Honorable Mention All-Conference. The Huskies were undefeated in the new year heading into District play before losing a closely contested contest to Hazelwood Central by four points.

Ritenour Wrestling - 22-23

Wrestling:

Both the boys and girls teams did very well this season. Both teams had several members that were new to the sport. Wrestling is a sport that requires lots of technique and skill. These new wrestlers were able to learn new skills and perform at a high level. Many of them placed at several

tournaments throughout the year. We had several wrestlers that were seconds away from going to the state tournament. The team did have one girl, Jullian Smith who qualified for the state meet. She wrestled tough and will be a strong leader going into the next season. We will have everyone

returning next year and the future is looking good for both teams.

Ritenour Girls Swim 22-23

Girls Swim:

The girls’ swim team had another strong winter season. Our overall season record was 12 – 4. The Huskies were the runner-up at the Blue Pool Conference Meet, finishing just six points behind the Wildcats from Hazelwood West. We took six first place finishes out of 11 events at the Conference meet. Our Medley Relay team of Beaird, Lohnes, Lohnes, and Dobbs dropped nine seconds to secure first. In the 200 IM and 100 Back, Karlee Beaird finished in second place. First-year swimmer, Jada Bradley, took first in the 200 IM. Samantha Lohnes finished first in the 50 Free and 100 Free. Elizabeth Dobbs took second place in the 500 Freestyle. Our 200 Free Relay team of Beaird, Lohnes, Bradley, and Lohnes took first place. Julia Lohnes finished first place in the 100 Breaststroke and our 400 Free Relay team of Buttry, House, Bradley, and Thomas finished in second place. These talented athletes worked hard all season and notched 21 personal bests in this final meet with eight swimmers earning First Team All-Conference honors. We are losing two excellent senior leaders Elizabeth Dobbs and Teresa Thomas, but we are very proud of our season and excited for what next year will bring.

Dance:

The dancers had a groundbreaking double season. They performed more than ever with games, outside events/showcases, and the beginning of trying to dip our toes in competition. The team wrapped up the year with our 2 four-year members Aundre’A Berry and Charli Holmes leading the team, and the other 3 seniors, to a stellar Senior Night performance.
