Lindbergh High School Winter 22/23 Highlights
Boys Wrestling
The Lindbergh boys wrestling team had a successful season, with junior Aden Solomon leading the way as a district champion and state qualifier at 144 pounds. Solomon’s outstanding performance earned him an all-district nod and first-team all-conference honors. Fellow junior Miguel Wassilak-Rodriguez received an all-conference sportsmanship selection. Coach Derrough had this to say about the season, “We learned a lot this season. We are going to take those learned lessons and turned them into an even more successful season next year. Our coaching staff is already excited to get to work.”
Lindbergh Girls Wrestling
The team finished the season with a 7-5 overall record behind first-year head coach Dylan Jones. The 2016 LHS grad was joined on his staff by fellow alumni Hailey Shuman and Dustin Jones. Junior Audrey Scherer lead the way with a district title, while fell junior Ellie Poulette was a district runner-up. Seniors Natalie Ford and Leila Hobson each earned fourth-place finishes at districts, qualifying all four for the state tournament. Scherer and Poulette were medalists at the state tournament, finishing fifth place in their respective weight classes. Both were also named academic all-state. Scherer, Poulette, and senior Kaylin Homfeld were all first-team all-conference selections. Hobson earned second-team all-conference honors. Ford was all-conference honorable mention, and senior Kathryn Jackson was given a conference sportsmanship selection. During the regular season, Scherer and Homfeld both surpassed the 100-win milestone at the same time at the Brentwood Quad on January 19th. Coach Jones had this to say about the team, “This group of girls became a family that works hard every day to achieve their goals, and by doing so, set records for this program that future girls record are going to look up to for many years to come.”
Girls Basketball
The Lindbergh girls basketball team finished their season with a 14-14 record, tied for the most wins in a season in the last 12 years. The Flyers were by Suburban Red Pool Conference player of the year, junior Rory Conboy. Conboy was also named to the Summit Holiday Hoops all-tournament team during the regular season. Fellow junior Nyla Jackson was named to the Lindbergh Tournament all-tournament team and senior Molly Kroenlein to the Southside Classic all-tournament squad. In addition to the conference’s player of the year, Lindbergh also received several more conference selections. Jackson was named to the first team. Kroenlein, junior Madison Mertzlufft, Sophomore Sam Colvin, and freshman MJ Abercrombie were given honorable mention nods. Junior Maeve Conboy received a sportsmanship selection. Coach Pittroff had this to say about the team, “The girls had a successful season on the court & in the classroom. We reached 14 wins for only the 2nd time in the last 12 years and had a 4.2 team GPA. I’m proud of their effort throughout the season & look forward to what they can accomplish next year. “
Boys Basketball
The Flyers boys basketball team finished their season with a 17-11 overall record, 5-2 in the conference. Their 17 wins are just the fourth time in the last 20 years the team has won more than 15 games. The Flyers took home the Southside Classic tournament trophy, with senior Matt Waller and junior Quinn Sunderland being named to the all-tournament team. That wasn’t the only all-tournament honor for the Flyers however, as senior Nick Bonczkowski earned a spot on the Flyers Invitational all-tournament squad. He was the recipient of the conference’s sportsmanship award, while Sunderland and Waller were named conference first and second team respectively. Coach Biggs had this to say about the team, “We finished the season 17-11 with a very tough schedule. We had a nice mix of a good group of 6 hard working seniors and multiple younger guys that consistently contributed to our success. I am fortunate to be surrounded by talented basketball players who are exceptional young men. I enjoyed coaching this group very much and I look forward to what the future holds for the program.”
Girls Swim and Dive
Members of the Lindbergh girl’s swim and dive team competed at this year’s state meet. Senior Lauren Howitt earned a top-ten finish in the 50 freestyle, finishing ninth, as well as a 12th-place finish in the 100 freestyle. Howitt was joined by fellow seniors Chloe Ake, Ali Shaver, and sophomore Abigal Schneider in the 200 freestyle relay, where they finished in 15th. Coach Lombardo had this to say about the team, “The 2022-2023 Girls Swim/Dive season had its ups and downs, but in the end we had some amazing young ladies that competed and accomplished some great things.”
Flyerettes
Varsity Poms showed tremendous improvement throughout their competition season. Competing in the Fort Zumwalt North Invitational, they placed 1st in Pom and Kick routines, and 3rd in their Game Day routine. They then competed in the UDA Regional Competition in Chicago and placed 2nd in Game Day, 5th in Kick, and 6th in Pom. The LHS Flyerettes traveled to Orlando, Florida for the 2023 UDA National Championships. The junior varsity finished eighth in the country in the pom competition, while the varsity squad made it to the finals in both the kick and pom competitions. They’d go on to finish in the top five in kick, taking fifth place, and 15th in pom.
Cheerleading
Varsity Cheer took their senior laden team to the regional tournament and state tournament. At regionals, they placed 7th which qualified them to move on to the state tournament where they placed 8th out of 10 teams from around the state. Coach said this about her team, “This year we had our biggest turnout in program history including 16 seniors. We also had the most stunting-skill growth over the previous years. We were very successful with our internal growth of the program and we look forward to continuing that in the coming years.”
The Lindbergh Symphony Orchestra
Orchestra
The LHS Symphony Orchestra was selected from orchestras across the state to perform at the Missouri Music Educator’s Association Conference in January 2023. They were also the only school to bring three orchestras to Large Ensemble Festival, with all three groups getting a 1-Exemplary rating.
