The Webster Groves High School Baseball program had an historic season. They won their conference championship and then followed that up with their first district championship since 2007. In the state quarterfinal game they defeated Festus to qualify for the state final four for the first time since 1969. The Statesmen beat Kearney in the semifinal to advance to the championship game for the first time in school history for baseball. Webster came up short in a 5-1 loss to Willard to finish as the Class 5 state runner up.

The Webster Groves High School girls soccer team had a great season that ended with a 14-4 record and included a 12 game winning streak and an undefeated conference championship.

BASEBALL

The baseball team had one of the most remarkable seasons in recent memory. The Colts returned 17 seniors, which is something that Central has never done before. Perhaps the most notable part of the season was losing Coach Davis for the season due to a non-baseball related injury. It really was a season unlike any other. The Colts relied heavily on those 17 seniors, and they carried the team to a top 4 seed in an incredibly difficult district. The Colts had impressive wins over Westminster, Parkway West, Oakville, Howell Central, and numerous Class 6 schools in the regular season. The season was capped off with a district win against Pacific and a tough-fought loss to Rockwood Summit, the eventual district champion. Perhaps the highlight of the season was playing a game at Busch Stadium (pictured below). It was a great night and all 50 players either got an inning in the field or an at bat in a major league stadium, which is something they will never forget.

Owen Grater was selected as a First Team All-Conference pitcher. Owen was our number 1 pitcher all year long, posting a 2.36 ERA in 44 innings pitched. Sam Sailors was selected as a Second Team All-Conference catcher. Sam was a leader all year long for Central, taking over primary catching duties for the first time this season. He hit .325 to go along with his fantastic leadership. Jonah Loiterstein was selected as a Second Team All-Conference outfielder. Jonah set the all-time school record for stolen bases with 31, breaking a record that has stood for over 20 years! Lastly, Brian Kang was selected as an Honorable Mention All-Conference pitcher. Brian was excellent all year for the Colts as well, with a 2.52 ERA over 33 innings pitched.

GOLF (BOYS)

The boys golf team just wrapped an exciting and successful season. We had one returning varsity player, which created opportunities for athletes to compete for one of the few and coveted varsity spots. Our returning underclassmen stepped up and filled these important gaps left by last year’s graduating class. We also had a talented group of freshmen join our team and contribute in many ways this season. One freshman in particular, Mukt Patel, was a driving force behind much of our team’s success. Mukt was our only player to make it to state this year which took place at the Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau. Mukt played well and placed 23rd out of 91 athletes, with a two-day score of 160 (81, 79). This is our highest score at state in last number of years. In addition to Mukt’s low scores, Dillon Harris, Jack Miller, Andrew Bassin, and Jackson Bober (and a few others) helped our team win 9 matches and place well at several tournaments.

Our team finished up our conference schedule this season with a 7-2 record, and a big win at the Conference Tournament. We have the core of our varsity team returning next year, and are very excited to see what next season brings.

LACROSSE (GIRLS)

The girls lacrosse season was inspiring and unusual. We started the season without a varsity goalie and came in with the mindset that we were going to have to pass the bag. Fortunately, sophomore Olivia Bumbac from JV quickly grew into the role and played varsity goal for us consistently after the first game. Olivia impressively finished in the top 10 for save percentage in the St. Louis area. We were still passing the bag on varsity though as we had field players jumping into goal for JV games throughout the season. It was inspiring the way this group of athletes volunteered to help wherever they were needed for the good of the program.

We finished our season 6-7. The team played a balanced, unselfish game with 7 players in double digits for points. The defense dialed in their communication and held their own against some tough competition. All conference team recognitions highlight some of our standout players:

1st team: Rachel Li lead the our team in points (47) and named All-Academic USA Lacrosse

2nd team: Olivia Bumbac in goal and Taryn Provinse 2nd for our team in points (39)

HM: Julia Colozza lead the team in caused turnovers (26), Sarah Jones lead the team in draw controls (31), and Mia Behrends with 22 goals

SOCCER (GIRLS)

Girls Soccer had a positive 13-8-1 season as a team with many standout individual performances. The team came in 2nd place in the Hannibal Tournament with Emily Heller, Penny Hinkle, and Anna Woodall earning a spot on the All-Tournament team. A new St. Louis High School player recognition is the STL Best XI, where area coaches recognize standout performances for each week. Senior Kaitlyn King earned a spot on the team in Week 4 and junior Sadie Levy followed her with a spot on the team in Week 5. Kaitlyn King was also recognized as the Parkway Central Post Dispatch Scholar Athlete, and earned a spot on the Missouri All-State Academic Team. Thank you to the leadership of the 4 seniors who left the program in a better place than they found it. They are Molly Huss, Kaitlyn King, Ellie Sioumcas, and Gabby Spicuzza.

TENNIS (BOYS)

Boys Tennis had a respectable 8-9 season as a team with a tough schedule that included several State contenders in Class 2 and Class 3. The team was relatively young with a lot of future potential. This year was quite a test but I am excited to see what next spring brings after all the growth experienced this season. The team came in 4th place in the Holt Tournament. On the individual side we had a doubles team of Aiden Amini and Nash Pratt that placed 3rd in the District and were nominated to All-Conference. We look forward to next year and wish our Varsity graduates the best of luck: Ayush Negi, Jeffrey Liu, Mitchell Smith and Jacob Abowitz.

TRACK (BOYS)

Boys Track & Field had a very good season winning the Suburban Green Conference for the 8th time in the last 9 seasons. We also won Class 4 Districts for the 5th time in the last 10 seasons. The Colts placed second in the sectional meet and qualified two relays and 6 individuals to the state meet. The team finished 15th place at State. Junior Leo Flynn broke a 31 year old school record, jumping 15’ 6.25” in the pole vault and Stanley Brown broke the 200 M record with a time of 21.77.

TRACK (GIRLS)

The Parkway Central girls had another fantastic track and field season. The team set numerous records at different levels of competition. Once again, the team won the Parkway Quad and Conference Championship. The team has not been defeated at a conference championship for ten years. When writing this article, the team placed in the top two at our district (our 16th plaque in 17 seasons) and sectional championships. The team won 3rd Place in State! It is the school’s ninth top-five finish in 16 seasons. The squad showed a lot of depth in mid and long-distance events. Finishing the regular season as the top-ranked class 4 school for team results in the 800 and 1600. Individually, Priya Cheatham set a school record in the discus, Skyye Lee (University of Florida signee) set another record in the 200m dash and broke the state record in the 100 M Hurdles. Freshman Gabby Moresi and Aziza set numerous freshman records in their events. Gabby broke the long-standing mile and two-mile freshman records. WATER POLO

Coming off the program’s first ever state championship, the Colts had lost several key pieces from the previous year’s team but were motivated to fight for another championship. The Colts started the season with a trip to Chicago to play in the Fenwick tournament. They went 3-1 and lost in the championship game by one goal.

As they continued play in Missouri, they established themselves as the number two seed in the state, with their only MO losses coming to St. Louis University High. Entering the postseason, the second seeded Colts cruised past #15 John Burroughs, #7 Parkway West, and #3 Kirkwood for another matchup with SLUH in the state championship game. The state final was tightly contested all game, but ultimately Parkway Central fell 9-11 to claim the second place trophy.

Senior captains Ian Conway and Tyler Bryant led the team. Conway received First Team All-Conference, First Team All-State, Conference Player of the Year, and District Player of the Year honors. He finished the season with 254 saves and a goals against average less than 6. Bryant led the offense tallying 78 goals, 69 assists and was also named First Team All-Conference and First Team All-State.

Additionally, junior Alan Conway, sophomore Peyton Dimmock, and senior William Jost received All-Conference and All-State selections.

RitenourHighSchool

BASEBALL:

The Ritenour Baseball program continues to take steps forward. The Varsity team posted a 6-11 record, however, we had 3 players nominated to first-team all-conference, 2B- Nathan Hayden, Utility- Trenten Goddard, and OF- Delroy Legall Moses, along with a second-team nomination for Catcher- Aiden Hodges. The program welcomed in its largest Freshman class in over 5 years, with a handful of them helping the varsity club at various times this year. The Huskies hope to continue building on the back of this strong Freshman class as we look forward to next year.

GIRLS SOCCER:

The Ritenour Girls Soccer team had a tremendous year! The team went 11-9, which is the 3rd most wins by a girls soccer team since 2000. The girls beat Pattonville for the first time in 21 years, and beat Hazelwood West for the first time in over 25 years. The girl’s finished 4th in the Suburban Green Conference, and had (2) First Team All-Conference selections in Samantha Lohnes and Megan Weisz, as well as (3) Second Team All Conference selections in Denisse Chaidez, Leilani Bazan, and Betzy Romero Ramos. Sam Lohnes and Denisse Chaidez each had 8 goals to led the team in scoring, and the outstanding defensive line with Leilani Bazan in goal combined for 6 shutouts on the season. The Senior Class proved to be great leaders and set a great tone for the season. The girls traveled to Sikeston/Jackson MO for two games at the beginning of the season, and enjoyed the travel time singing, dancing, and team bonding which started the season off wonderfully!

The JV team did amazing as well with a 6-1 record, and was led in goal scoring by Krisean Buchanan with over 10 goals.

BOYS TRACK:

The Ritenour Boys track team had plenty of adversity this year, starting the first six weeks of the season without use of their home track facility. Some early injuries made getting a foundation very difficult but the boys on the team fought hard and were still able to achieve some historic performances.

At the Suburban Red Conference Meet, Tyson Robinson won the 400 meters in a time of 48.90 ranking him 3rd on the school’s All-Time list.

At the Sectional Meet, Shayn Bishop placed 5th in the 400 meters in a time of 49.17 ranking him 4th on the school’s All-Time list. The 4×100 relay of Derrick Smith Jr, Michael Miller, Cameron Mitchell, and Tyson Robinson won the event in a time of 41.90 and broke the school record that had stood for 34 years.

At the State Meet, Derrick Smith Jr placed 5th in the 100 meters in a time of 10.65 tying the school record for the second time this season. The 4×100 relay of Derrick Smith Jr, Michael Miller, Cameron Mitchell, and Tyson Robinson placed 5th and Tyson Robinson placed 4th in the 300 Hurdles in a time of 38.59 ranking him 5th on the school’s All-Time list. The boys scored 13 points which placed the team 21st at the State Meet and is the second highest finish at the State Meet for the Ritenour Boys Track Team since 1992.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL:

Boys’ volleyball had a great spring season this year. “You’ve got a great bunch of guys there” “I love your team’s energy,” “You guys are so much fun to watch,” and are just a few of the compliments that Ritenour volleyball received from officials, fans, and other teams this season. We had a lot of new players this season but everyone grew tremendously in their volleyball skills and court IQ. Our varsity team won five games this year and could have had even more, we lost some incredibly close games that went down to the wire and could’ve gone either way. Our team pride and sportsmanship were contagious and each match proved just how much these gentlemen had come to love the game. We ran a 4 on 4 tournament fundraiser, which helped us raise money for senior banners and for our team banquet at the end of the season. On April 20th, the varsity team won 7th place at the Lutheran Invitational, and Coe Reardean was chosen for the all-tournament team.

Members of our varsity team also broke four school records this season.

● Nathan Mejia had 21 service points in a single match.

● Micah Weissler had 36 assists in a single match.

● Jordan Teoli had 38 digs in a single match.

● Coe Reardean broke the single-season record for solo blocks with a total of 30 blocks.

We are graduating 8 seniors this year, so big congratulations and thanks to Leo Barge, Quincy Jones, Gerson Madrid, Nathan Mejia, Coe Reardean, Darren Sparks, and Eric Vazquez. Best of luck to you all!

Ladue Boys Tennis

The Ladue Horton Watkins High School boys’ tennis team had a remarkable
season, achieving an undefeated record of 13-0. Despite their incredible performance, the team faced a tough loss in the district final against the eventual State Champions,MICDS. Senior Max Chen, a dedicated varsity player for all four years, made it to the State final in singles but was narrowly defeated by John Varley from Priory. The doubles team of junior Charles Randall and sophomore Aiden Qian clinched the State title, triumphing over Parkway West’s top doubles team. This season was a testament to the team’s talent and resilience, highlighted by individual and collective successes.

Ladue Girls Lacrosse

The Ladue Girls Lacrosse Program had one of its most successful seasons since it was established in 2000 with both Varsity and JV going undefeated in the regular season proving that they were better together! The Varsity Girls finished the regular season with a #7 seed heading into the Missouri State Lacrosse Association Tournament. In postseason, the girls earned two byes to send them to the Round of Sweet 16 where they defeated #10 Parkway West 9-8. However, they lost 8-14 to #2 MICDS in the Elite 8. Only three other teams held the #2 ranked team to a lower deficit during the season. Although the girls lost to the eventual State Champion Runner-Ups, this season has been a remarkable success with a 14-1 record! The girls also had two All-State Honorable Mention players: Vicky Derdoy (10) and Yael Sabin (11) and one player named First Team- All-State: Colette Brennan (10). It has been four years since the team has had this type of post-season or a player on the All-State Team! An undefeated regular season, an Elite 8 Post-season finish, and three players receiving placements on All-State… What a season!

Ladue Baseball

Ladue baseball battled injuries and rain before finding its stride in the last third of the season. The Rams knocked off four consecutive conference opponents before heading into District play. In the Districts the Rams beat Westminster and Parkway West to reach the District championship game where they lost to a tough Summit team 3-0. The Ram’s efforts were recognized with Will Kunitz-Sr (IF), Jack Moore – Jr (P), and Barrett Gall -Jr (OF) receiving First Team All-Conference honors. Levi Sandweiss – Sr (OF), and Seaton Thompson – So (P) received second team nods. The Rams finished the year with a Conference record of 4-3 and overall record of 11-10.

Ladue Boys Golf

The Ladue boys golf program had another outstanding season this past Spring. The JV team finished their season with 7 wins and 2 losses. They had outstanding showings in their tournaments placing in the top 3 of every one.

The varsity team finished their regular season dual/tri matches with a 8-2 record. They had top ten finishes in all of their Invitational Tournaments. Individual accomplishments go to Grant Bautista for earning Player Of The Year in the Sub. West Red Pool. Also, 1st team All-Conf was given to Jackson Burrus and Beau Dolan. Lastly, 2nd team was given to Kevin Liu.

The team finished 2nd in their district only losing to Fort Zumwalt South by 3 strokes. The 4 boys qualifying and representing Ladue at the State Tourn. were Grant Bautista, Jackson Burrus, Kevin Liu, and Cole Seabaugh.

Girls Soccer

The Ladue girls soccer team had their best season in school history this year! The girls finished with a record of 18-7, finished 2nd in conference (their best conference finish since the realignment), and went further in the MSHSAA playoffs than they ever had. The team won districts for only the 3rd time in school history (1988, 2016) and made it to the elite 8 for the first time ever.

The STEAM tennis program exceeded everyone’s expectations. Last year’s team tied for the conference championship, had a run to sectionals in the individual doubles, winning the district doubles but was led by seniors. McCluerNorthHighSchool

The following student-athletes are members of the McCluer North Stars’ Baseball Program and represent the best blend of academic progress and athletic performance. We have scholar athletes at all program levels and stress the importance of classroom learning and the rigors of athletic performance to create a well-rounded experience for our players.

zoom_out_map

Sr. Karnell Reid Jr.–3.4 GPA

Karnell was awarded first-team all-conference in 2023 and second-team all-conference in 2024. He has also been named to the District V, Class 2 all-district team in 2024. Karnell’s journey is a testament to the balanced opportunities the program provides. In his own words, Success is not just about winning on the field or in the classroom; it’s about the dedication, resilience, and character you build along the way as a student-athlete. Embrace the challenges, stay focused on your goals, and always remember that the lessons learned through sports and academics will shape you into a champion both on and off the field and prepare you for success in all aspects of life.” He will attend St. Louis University on a full-ride scholarship to study mechanical engineering in the fall and plans to play baseball for the Billikens as a walk-on candidate for the team. He currently holds a 3.4 GPA

zoom_out_map

Daron Phillips is a freshman member of the program and currently holds the highest GPA of a perfect 4.0. He is a swing player between all three program levels and has demonstrated growth in pitching, hitting, and defense at the first base bag. Daron views the intersection of athletics and academics as a growth opportunity, Academics and athletics help me develop as an overall student-athlete by making me more focused mentally and physically. For example, if I am not at practice, I am getting academically better. When I am at practice, I am getting physically active, which helps my brain function better.”

zoom_out_map

Junior Joseph Kane is our second baseman and a three-year varsity starter for the program. He holds a 3.1 GPA and is enrolled in our most challenging academics at McCluer North. Joe is a second-team all-conference awardee this year and a first-team all-district award recipient as well. He is one of our hardest working players on and off the field and views academics and athletics as,Participating in both academics and sports promotes a wholistic approach to human development by teaching resilience, discipline, and time management. We develop our intellect via academic pursuits, refining our capacity for critical thought and broadening our knowledge. Similarly, sports help develop character by instilling values such as perseverance, collaboration, and hard effort. When combined, these interests produce a well-rounded person capable of succeeding in the classroom and on the field and facing life’s obstacles head-on and with confidence.”

zoom_out_map

When asked about the impact and importance of academics and athletics, senior Amarre’ Patrick said,

To be or not to be. For I will always choose to be. Whether it was showing it in the classroom or on the baseball field, I wonder where I’d be now if it weren’t for constantly being in school.” Balancing school and athletics has not always been easy, and Amarre’ had to sacrifice a year of eligibility as a result. Still, he has returned stronger than ever, winning first-team all-conference honors this season, all while maintaining a 3.0 GPA. He went on to elaborate that, “I remember coach saying and asking all of us, “To be or not to be“ and for us to choose. I chose to be, whether that was an academic weapon or a leader for the baseball program. What I mean by constantly being in school is that I feel if I wasn’t constantly involved with school, life would’ve taken a different turn. And for the last line, I remember when Kanye said people wondered what would’ve happened if he never made it, he told them, “ I guess we’ll never know “

zoom_out_map

Sophomore Keegan Raycraft is a standout player for both the varsity and JV programs at McCluer North, all while maintaining a 3.2 GPA. His speed and dependability in tight games are unmatched, and he continues to grow and impress the coaches. Keegan sees that “Athletics better me as a student-athlete by teaching me responsibilities. My team depends on me to be there and give my best. Academics have bettered me as a student-athlete by giving me knowledge on and off the baseball field.

zoom_out_map

Christian Stone, a sophomore, is a swing player for both the varsity and JV programs. As an outfielder and pitcher, he is developing into a strong contender for the starting rotation next season. He is dedicated to the sport but definitely takes care of his needs in the classroom by maintaining a 3.4 GPA. In his own words, “Academically, this school year was tough. Some of the classes I had helped me switch my mindset because they were all different. Athletically, the sports had helped open up more opportunities within my physical and mental state. They both helped me with something significant that will help me in the near future in my life.”

Mekhi James, a sophomore, was unable to submit a photo in time for posting this submission, but he is another example of the baseball program’s student-athlete core with a 3.1 GPA. Mekhi is a swing player for both the varsity and JV teams this year, and as a first-year player, he has distinguished himself as a hard worker with a willingness to adapt to any new situation. We look forward to continued success with him on and off the field. Mekhi believes “Academics and athletics help me develop as a student-athlete by giving academic skills such as time management, discipline, and responsibility, as well as cognitive skills such as critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The benefit Athletics give me is physical health. Since I started playing baseball, I’ve been working out way more and plan to continue this over the summer. Another benefit I have gained from athletics is teamwork and leadership. Lastly, athletics has given me perseverance on and off the field. Both academics and athletics have helped me develop confidence and self-esteem. I’m still in the process of becoming more confident in myself, but it’s a work in progress. Lastly, academics and athletics have helped me develop goals for myself on and off the field.
