Ritenour High School
Congratulations to Layla Fouche for being selected as the 2022-2023 St. Louis Post Dispatch Scholar Athlete Award Winner.
BASEBALL:
For the senior heavy Ritenour Baseball program, this season was one of ebbs and flows. Finishing 8-11 on the season, the Varsity team saw their record improve from 6-10 the previous season. With an offense that averaged over 6 runs a game the Huskies struggled to sure things up on the defensive side, where they allowed roughly 7 seven runs a game.
Major offensive contributors for the Huskies included, Nathan Hayden (led in BA and OB%), Trenten Goddard (led in RBI and SLG), Drew Thomas (led in R and SB), Blake Dingledine and Delroy Legall Moses (top 5 in most offensive stats) and Jordan Bradley, Isaiah Seagrass, and Richard Patton (each tallying double digit hits).
Major pitching contributors for the Huskies include Nathan Hayden, Trenten Goddard, Drew Thomas, Will Chosich, and Blake Dingledine.
BOYS GOLF:
The golf team had one returning sophomore, Jackson Leong, and two newcomers, senior, Andy Vo and freshman, Preston Gutzler. Both received all-conference honorable mention in the the Suburbun North. It was a season of growth for individual golfers, as all improved throughout the season. Additionally, the team played a lot of golf this season competing in four eighteen hole tournaments in addition to the regular season schedule.
GIRLS SOCCER:
The Ritenour Girls’ Varsity Soccer Team wrapped up the season with an 8-0 loss to St. Joseph’s Academy. That may sound like a huge defeat, but St. Joseph’s is team that could defeat less inspired teams in our conference by two or even three times the goal tally they had against us. Our girls, as they did in every game this season, played hard and with pride.
Our 5-14 record leaves us wishing we’d have finished a few more early chances in games, cleared the ball a little better late in games, and had far fewer foul throw-ins. We were competitive in most of our games, and had some spells of really impressive play.
Our leading scorer, Samantha Lohnes, kept defenses on their toes as our striker. She finished the season with 11 goals. We had stand-out performances from our goal keepers as well. Leilani Bazan and Leyla Peyton both stopped shots at such a rate that opposing players’ parents, coaches, and officials sought them out acknowledge their efforts. Between our striker and keeper we got strong efforts all over the field. One player that played all over the field was sophomore, Aida Volpitto, who played virtually every position on the field at one time or another this season. She just didn’t play any keeper.
Our graduating seniors will be missed. We wish Janiah Harris and Maria Ventura the best of luck as they continue their studies and thank them for their effort over the years as a part of the soccer program.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL:
Boys volleyball had a number of setbacks throughout the season which led to our 2-21 finish. There were some bright spots worth celebrating though. The boys finished in 4th place in our first tournament of the season at Hazelwood West. In the Lutheran tournament, the Huskies defeated Hazelwood West to finish in 7th place. Emmanuel Garcia, varsity setter, was chosen for the all tournament team in the Lutheran Tournament. James Chan, varsity libero, set a single match dig record with 31 digs. Yusuf Majeed-Ali, varsity middle hitter, set a single season record for most blocks with 91. So even though the win column may not be what we hoped for, we did make some progress. We are losing two seniors, Zayvion Mayes and Tyler Wright, both who provided a lot of offense and defense for the varsity team. I am happy to report that for the second year in a row, we were able to have enough players to have three separate teams so the interest is growing which is great since Missouri just fully added boys volleyball as a sanctioned sport. Looking forward to what this team can do next season with all the experience they received this year.
