SPRING 2023 Season Review – Pattonville HS

Pattonville High School

Pattonville had a memorable spring season in 2023, led by some excellent performances with their track programs.

Baseball: The Pattonville varsity baseball team finished the 2023 season with a record of 19-11 (10-4 in Suburban Green conference play). The 2023 team had 11 senior ballplayers, 2 juniors, and 4 sophomores. The 2023 Pirates were involved in 2 extra-inning conference wins, and 5 comeback wins. The Pirates went 3-0 in a wood bat showcase at Cape Girardeau Central HS. The team received academic honors for posting a cumulative GPA of 3.265.

Boys Golf: The boy’s golf team showed great improvement throughout this season. Although we did not reach our goal of finishing first in the conference, the team did finish second in the conference tournament. Junior Lukas Cates finished the season with all-conference first team recognition. Junior Patrick Clifford finished the season with all-conference second team recognition. Daniel Clifford and Shota Kikuchi showed great promise as freshman players and have bright futures ahead of them. Ben Wallace, a senior, showed measurable improvement throughout his four years in the program. We will have four returning players next season with opportunities to qualify for the state tournament if they continue to progress at the pace they are on.

Lacrosse: Our lacrosse team was loaded with young, inexperienced players this season. They worked hard to learn the varying skills the game needs. Led by first year coach, Hannah Cooper, they improved as the season progressed.

Girls Soccer: The Varsity Girls Soccer Athletes were successful not only on the field but in the classroom this season. The girls had an overall team GPA of 3.99 and thirteen out of the sixteen received Academic All Conference Honors. Mattie Ohlsen and Allison Schrumpf achieved Academic All State Honors and were invited to play in the MAC All Star Game. Jordyn Maryas, Allison Schrumpf, and Mattie Ohlsen were named to the 1st team All Conference Team and Britini Benedict was named to the 2nd team All Conference Team. Allison Schrumpf was named as Pattonville High School’s Outstanding Senior and St. Louis Post Dispatch’s Scholar Athlete. We have 5 girls going on to play soccer in college.

Boys and Girls Track: Our track teams had outstanding seasons. Our boys qualified for state and placed 6th in the 4×100 and our girls 4×4 placed third. A’Laji Bradley finished 2nd in the 200, 2nd in the 400, and 3rd in the 100. And Camryn Hubbardplaced 5th in the 800. An outstanding season.

Boys Volleyball: The team finished shy of their goals but still had huge moments of glory. The amount of growth the team showed this season was incredible. We had players changing positions, trying new lineups, and surprising teams. While we did not win as many games as we would have liked, we did take several good teams to extra sets: Fort Zumwalt East, Whitfield (who made it to the final four), Parkway South, Parkway Central (who won their district), and Rockwood Summit. The great part about this season is 11/12 players will be returning next year!

Water Polo: The biggest highlight of this year for the water polo program was that we had a girl’s team for the first time in school history. Girl’s water polo is growing in the Saint Louis area and Pattonville was one of three new girl’s programs in the area – Bringing the total number to nine. We are only graduating one senior so we look forward to seeing the rest of our athletes grow in the coming years.

The boys program graduated 12 seniors last year, so this year was very much a learning year for most members. Our record does not reflect the growth and experience that our players obtained this year. We are proud to say that Junior, Logan Finn, was voted by other coaches in the area to 2nd team all-conference. Logan is also a captain. It is a well-deserved honor.

Boys Tennis:The 2023 boy’s tennis season was successful and fun. Our team had a record of 6 & 4 with a very competitive schedule. We had a total of 22 boys on the team with 8 of them playing in varsity matches. Our top 6 boys all had at least 8 wins and they combined for a total of 68 singles/doubles wins. Our #1 player, Beckett Grabner, was voted 1st Team All-Conference. Chris Braggs and Muhammad Faisal also received All-Conference honors. We will greatly miss our Seniors next year, but look forward to continued growth and success from our underclassmen.
