McCluer North High School
Baseball
It is with no small measure of pride and gratitude that I write to you this morning to tell you that the McCluer North Varsity Baseball team played for the 2023 District Championship this season, ultimately finishing second overall in our district behind a resilient Clayton team. Our team saw our players earn First Team All-Conference honors for Sr. Justin Flowers and Jr. Karnell Reid; Second Team All-Conference Honors for So. Joseph Kane, So. Du’Rae Wiley, and Fr. Curtis Howard with the Conference Sportsmanship Award going to So. Marlon Richardson and All-Conference Honorable Mentions to Jr. Javon Luckey, Fr. Jermaine Jones, and Fr. Jordan Taylor. The Stars will return 18 players from this year’s roster to compete for more accolades in the 2024 season.
As their coach, I can confidently say that this team, these young men, has grown so much in such a short period of time. They routinely proved that winning a game is merely the byproduct of all the work that comes before. Conditioning, hitting, fielding, and throwing are all part of the same complex equation that includes tenacity, faith, dedication, perseverance, trust, academics, and a shared common belief that they can become something greater than their origins with every opportunity to take the field. I could not have asked for more from them. As we go into the off-season, the Stars look to repeat the successes they have enjoyed this year and earn more with the work that is yet to come. As always, GO STARS!

Soccer
The Girls Spring Soccer season started out a little rough at 0-7 but 1/2 way through the team turned it around with the best win of the season against Ritenour 4-3.
The North stars finished the season a respectable 7-11 losing in the first round in districts to Rosati-Kain 1-0.
The biggest accomplishment of the season was having a Junior Varsity Season along with a full Varsity Schedule and only having a roster of 23 Girls. 10 Seniors,1 Junior, 4 Sophomores and 5 Freshman.
Team Co-Captains Seniors Abby Hoffman and Alanna Strong with standout Goalkeeping from Sophomore Addison Cambron were the backbone of this amazing turn-around.

Tennis
The Boys tennis team this year consisted of 6 Freshmen. This was the most players we have had come out in several seasons,. Gavin Jenkins was our only freshmen that had any prior experience in tennis. Gavin had a great season overall. He was able to display his skills compiling an impressive record against some very tough competition. Kayden Weaver, Carlos Catemaxca, Xavier Henderson, Adrian Clay, and Jordan McLarren all improved dramatically over the course of the season. Each one had never played a competitive tennis match before. The early struggles turned to an excitement for the game for all of the Stars players. I hope the boys will continue to work on their skills over the summer and return next season to help build the program even more.

Track & Field
Girls Track
Girls Track had a great season with quite a few Personal Records and season’s bests accomplished throughout the season. We had a strong start right out the gate placing 8th place out of 16 teams in the Mike Rodger’s Invitation held at STEAM/McCluer South Berkley. Shortly after that, at the Northwest Invitational in Cedar Hill, MO, our JV team placed 18th and our Varsity placed 8th out of 36 teams.
We came out on top finishing our post season with 8 girls placing in the top 8 at conference which included runners: Amariah Dent, Janyah Goforth, Taylor Brown, Ellie Flick, Dezirae Nabors, Skyah Taylor, and Chevaughn Randle as well as placing top 8 with the 4×100 and 4x200m relays. At Districts, we qualified 6 events to make it to Sectionals the following week which included: Jordyn Buckley who made it in the 100, 200, & 400, Dezirae Nabors in the long jump, Jill Ransom in the discus, and the 4×100 who included Shaniyah Murphy, Janyah Goforth, Amya Love, and Jordyn Buckley.
Finally, we qualified 4 events for the MSHSAA State Track and Field Championships which included Jordyn Buckley in the 100, 200, and 400, and the 4x100m relay which consisted of Shaniyah Murphy, Janyah Goforth, Amya Love, and Jordyn Buckley as well as alternates Aliycia Davis, Dezirae Nabors, Carmillya Williams, and Skyah Taylor. Sophomore Jordyn Buckley was able to make the podium and earn medals in the 100m dash running a personal record of 12.32 seconds for 7th place as well as in the 400m dash running another personal record of 58.52 for 5th place overall.

The boy’s track and field season was a true rollercoaster that we rode as a team and coaching staff. We had numerous ups and downs but throughout the season we stayed together as a family from start to finish. Creating a new track culture retaining athletes is a huge part. The commitment of our team to start with 50 young men and finish with 45 after a long hard season is only the beginning of our track and field culture. On the varsity level we had solid seasons from Mark Ishman, Kenny Myers, Bryan Thompson, Ja’Mes Davis, Demon Collins, Markail Brown and Aidan Ray. On the Junior Varsity level Issac Grey, Isaiah Moseby, Vyron Brown, Jemerque Ishman, Jocques Williams and Antionio Hill all had solid seasons that we are excited to build upon. We look forward to building our family in the off season by challenging ourselves academically along with getting bigger faster and stronger in the weight room.

Golf
The boy’s golf team finished with six golfers and sent two golfers to districts.
Members of the boys team: KeShawn Williams, Kaleb Nelson, Tedric Richards, Jonathan Casimere and district participants Malik Bell and Michael Richardson.
The team had a conference win over University City and a non-conference win over Maplewood.
All the golfers are underclassmen, so we plan on building on the success we had this year for next.
