Girls Tennis – Class 2 Second Place

The Ladue Horton Watkins High School girls’ tennis team had a great season, ending the season with a record of 14-4. The team of eight athletes ended the season by placing second at State, losing in a very close match to Barstow (4-5). Junior Kayla Chan clinched the State final in singles and the doubles team of junior Jenna Song and freshman Emma Jin placed sixth in the doubles State tournament. This season was a testament to the team’s talent and resilience, highlighted by individual and collective successes.

Boys Soccer – Class 3 State Champions:

The Ladue Boys Soccer team made history this fall with their best season in team history. The team finished 23-6, winning their last 11 games of the season while outscoring their opponents 36-3 during that time! The team entered the postseason ranked #1 in the state and looked to make it back to state for the 3rd time in 4 seasons. In district play, the Rams were dominant in an 8-0 win over Hazelwood East and 5-1 win over Parkway Central. In the district final however, the Rams were pushed to the brink against a solid Westminster squad. The Westminster goalie played amazingly and kept the Rams from scoring until Ladue finally made the game winning goal with 1:48 seconds remaining in double overtime!

After winning districts, Ladue had to travel up to Hannibal to play their best team in school history. The Rams escaped the hostile environment with a 2-0 win to make it back to state! In state, Ladue played a very talented Van Horn team from KC. The game was intense and could’ve gone either way. After 110 minutes of scoreless soccer, the game went to pks! Pks had been tough on Ladue this year, with 3 of the team’s 6 losses coming in pks. However, the team had been practicing pks everyday at practice and it paid off. All 5 players stepped up and knocked in their pks, icing the victory and getting the team back to the state championship game! At state, Ladue faced Vianney, a team who had beaten Ladue earlier in the year 4-1. However, in the state championship game, Ladue played their best game of the year! Ladue beat Vianney 3-0 in dominating fashion to win their first state championship in school history!

Individually, the players also had many accomplishments. Braedan Wallace won Player of the year for Class 3, an amazing feat for a defender! The team had 6 individuals make the all state team: Braedan Wallace, Avi Levin, Jack Scheffel, Tommy Edrington, Ahmad Shebl and Jose Sanchez. Those 6 also were all region players!

Girls Golf – Class 3 Sixth Place:

The Ladue Girls Golf Team had another fantastic Fall season. This year, the main varsity team
consisted of senior Genesis Julian, juniors Madison Stockwell, Audrey Stockwell, Lauren
Straughter, and Arden Poger. The team started strong with a 4th place finish at the annual
Webster Groves Scramble tournament. By the end of the season, the team ended with an
impressive 9-hole match record of 7-2. The team also finished with an impressive 2nd place
finish at the Class 3 District 1 tournament held at Norwood Golf Course in Hannibal, Missouri.
This 2 nd place finish resulted in a team qualification for the State Tournament. This was only the 2nd time in school history that the girl’s golf team qualified for the state tournament. At state,
the team placed 6 th at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield, Missouri. With most of the squad returning next year, Ladue Golf is already excited for next season!

Girls Volleyball – State Quarterfinalist:

Ladue beat John Burroughs in four sets for the first district championship since 1999!

Field Hockey – State Quarterfinalist:

The Ladue Field Hockey team finished the season with a #6 ranking and an Elite 8 appearance in the state tournament. They won the Suburban Yellow Conference going undefeated and without allowing a single goal against in conference play. Victoria Derdoy (11th) earned the Conference Player of the Year honor and finished 5th in St. Louis for goals (27) and total points (69). The following players earned first team all-conference selection: Victoria Derdoy, Samantha Hillman, Katie Myckatyn, and Miran Sheley. The following players earned second team all-conference: McKenzie Durbin, Mimi Tabscott, Zoe Tenenbaum, and Annie Tilghman, and Irene Murphy earned an honorable mention all-conference.

Softball:

The Ladue Softball team had a great season finishing 12-7 and much to celebrate! Freshman pitcher Caroline Moore broke multiple school records including ERA in a season at 1.89, Record Innings Pitched at 88.7, Strikeouts in a Season at 173, Record Strikeouts in a Single Game at 18. The Rams graduated Amanda Armbruster and Camille Whitfield, two strong leaders on and off the field. As a team, the Rams won and lost exhibiting grace while exhibiting excellent sportsmanship. We gained skills and confidence as athletes, practiced determination and persistence, and are all stronger, healthier, and better for the time together and memories to carry!

AfftonHighSchool

When you hear this summary, it’s not going to amaze you, but it will inspire you if you’ve ever worked at a small school that has experienced very little success.

Our boys swim team has doubled in size over the last 3 seasons from 2 to 4 to 8 swimmers this season. All of the swimmers were freshman and sophomores and will be returning next year. They continued to improve throughout the season and took fifth place out of 11 teams in the conference swim meet to end the season. The brand new coach this season did an amazing job.

Affton’s Football team went 0-10 last season and took two bad losses to start the season, but kept grinding away and pulled off an overtime victory in week 3 to break the losing streak and the support they received after that win was like they had just won the super bowl. They took a strong Jennings team to double overtime, but came up just short. The last game was a conference game at Normandy where they pulled off a 21-18 victory to finish the season with 2 wins. Four new coaches this season.

The band has been unbelievable under the new leadership of our new band director and assistant band director. We have never had a group cheer louder than the fans and cheerleaders combined. Seeing them stay for the entire game and play the alma mater in front of the football team, cheerleaders, fans and parents after that first overtime win was like a scene out of a movie.

Our softball team played an entire season with a full team and won 3 games which is a great improvement from their 0-6 total record last season. What is even more impressive is they did it with two new coaches, several new players and no seniors. They played through tragedy and for their fallen teammate that lost her life too early last year and she would have been our lone senior softball player this season.

CHEER

The Parkway Central cheer team welcomed back Coach Korte this year and welcomed new assistant coach, Blakely Parrott. The team started their season with several skill-building clinics over the summer. We debuted our new skills during football season, where we truly became a team.

We kicked off the school year at Highcroft Elementary, helping to get the students excited for the upcoming year. The Cheer team hosted another successful Jr. Colts Cheer clinic and performed at a Saturday Varsity game. Also, during football season, we celebrated our two seniors, Jessica Shyres and Brooke Williams. We will truly miss these girls next year.

We are currently gearing up for another great Colts Basketball season! See you there! Go Colts!

CROSS COUNTRY (Girls)

Coach Burgess, Lila Solomon, Penny Hinkle, Gabby Moresi, Sarah Williams, and Coach Banta

The Parkway Central Girls Cross Country season was a huge step forward for the program. The team placed in the top three in almost every meet they competed in and all but one invitational. Central won their conference division both in varsity and JV. We had our highest finish “county-wide” since the first all-suburban meet was run.

Individual four girls qualified for the state championship. Some of the best times in our school history were recorded by our top two seniors. Sarah Williams and Lila Solomon are now ranked eighth and ninth all-time, respectively. The freshmen also made their presence known, with Gabby Moresi and Penny Hinkle nearly setting the freshman record in the 5k. They now stand second and third all-time for rookies. It’s truly a great time to be a Colt! The future is bright for our program!

We won the Parkway Quad, placed 3rd at the Fleet Feet Classic, 4th in the Forest Park XC Festival green division, 1st in the Lutheran North meet. We won conference, districts and placed 4th at state! Senior Brendan Alfonso broke the school record with a time of 15:41.1. All of our kids, including JV and freshmen, worked really hard all season to improve their times. The Parkway Central Dance Team welcomed a new name (Coltline) and coaches (Karen Asbell and Sarah Lenz) this year. The team celebrated team bonding, awards, and a chance to build and grow together during their NDA Home Camp over the summer. During the fall, the team was busy choreographing their PEP RALLY dance, which was a HUGE success, and celebrating our four seniors (Amanda, Allie, Ande, and Jordyn)

The team is preparing for a winter season full of basketball games and competitions. Basketball season will include our Junior Colts Dance clinic and game, as well as our Annual Guy-Girl Dance. We will be competing at Lindbergh this year and hosting our first competition before we head to MDTA State Championships at the Family Arena in St. Charles, MO. in February.

FIELD HOCKEY

Field Hockey had a really fun season, with 9 seniors leading the program and welcoming 11 freshmen. We began Competition Days, which took place throughout the season, and split up all of the players so that there were four teams made up of all grades and both JV and Varsity players. The girls competed in fun events against each other for a season-wide competition. On the field, the Varsity team looked more complete than ever before. The best win of the season was against our biggest rival from last year, Whitfield. While celebrating their senior night, the girls played their best game of the season and won 5-0, after losing a heartbreaker in the playoffs to the same team last year.

The varsity team showed improvement this year by scoring a season-record 17 goals. Senior Elizabeth Korte (Parkway North) added 5 goals to her career total as Central’s leading goal scorer in program history. She earned 1st Team All-Conference recognition for her tremendous play. Freshman Regan Brillhart also earned 1st Team All-Conference recognition by scoring 8 goals, a single-season record, which tied her for most goals in the conference, and she was second in the conference with goals and assists combined. Central also had three players earn 2nd Team All-Conference this season, with seniors Alyson Poe, Clare Johnston, and Alison Simmons.

FOOTBALL

The Parkway Central Colts varsity football team battled through a tough schedule with a young, inexperienced team. Our players learned through adversity, gained much-needed experience, and showed improvement throughout the season. The Colts earned their first win against McCluer North in an exciting home finale and senior night. On our JV team, we had a talented class of freshmen join our program in numbers we haven’t had in a freshman class in nearly a decade.

Trevion Taylor (Running Back) and Max Sailors (Offensive Line) earned first-team all-conference offense while Zach Madi (Offensive Line) earned second-team all-conference offense. On the defensive side of the ball, Ari Bricker (Linebacker) and Marcus Taylor (Defensive Back) earned 2nd team all-conference. Quinn Boc earned the Suburban Sportsmanship Award for the Colts.

Cross Country (Boys/Girls): The 2024 Cross County Season for the Huskies was most definitely a good one. The young team, with 13 sophomores, along with their senior leadership made great strides this year.

The women’s team, led by Senior and 4-year member, Tori Beard, had a solid season and picked up some hardware along the way. Tori finished as a medalist in three races with a season high placing of 9th overall at Sioux Passage. Alina Millsapp grabbed her first career medalist honor at Sioux Passage as well with a 16th place finish. Up and coming sophomores Katrina Kesselring and Adriana Montoya finished the year with solid times and will be looked at as leaders on next year’s squad.

The men’s team had one of their best overall season’s in recent memory thanks to their young core of 9 sophomores and 4-year senior Micah Weissler.

Weissler led the team in every race this season, grabbing medalist honors in 4 races along the way. His season, lifetime best time, of 17:33 at the Twilight Invitational makes him the 3rd fastest Husky in the last 10 years.

The strong showing by the young core helped the team grab its first team trophy in many years with a 2nd place finish at the Paul Enke Invite, held at Sioux Passage. The team narrowly missed first place by a handful of points and were led by a contingent of 5 medalists including…Raphael Blevins with a 2nd place finish, Khalid Royal, James Hagler, David Rose and Isaiah Cox.

Blevins, a sophomore, grabbed medalist honors in 4 races in total, tying Weissler for the team lead.

Kavi Draper, Daniel Williams, Elliott Neeb and Luke Vaughan in addition to their other class of 2027 teammates will look to build on the successes of this season moving forward.

The team ended their season at the district meet with a 10th place team finish, capping off a great year.

Football:

The 2024 Ritenour Football Huskies made it to the district semifinals against SLUH where we fell short 43-40 this season. This season, all 6 losses were under 6 points or on the game’s last possession. We had several bright spots on offense with new arrival Sophomore Anthony Odom at Quarterback who made second team all suburban red, along with seniors Mike Miller, Bryan Steiger, and Tyler Hewitt also receiving second team honors on offense. Dmarcus Wilson was the lone first-team kick returner selection. We led the conference in total defense giving up only 26 points per game and setting a school record for three shutouts or scoreless games in a row. We had several first-team selections Tre Fondren, Yarmon Kirksey Jr, Yehoshua Magwood and second-team selection Amari Mu’min. The future is bright for the Football Huskies with 15 starters returning next season.

Softball:

The 2024 Husky Softball team achieved its third consecutive winning season, tallying a 16-12 record. The team played one of its toughest schedules in years.

The season started with the Huskies playing in the Parkway Tournament. After a difficult first day, (losses to Parkway Central and Eureka) they found their stride. With wins over Hazelwood West and Parkway North, they ended the tournament 2-2, winning the consolation bracket.

The following weekend the Huskies played in the Ritenour Tourney at ABC ballpark, and after dropping the first game to Hazelwood West they were able to collect wins against Fort Zumwalt North and Pattonville, maintaining their strong showing in tournaments.

The Huskies saved their best softball for conference play, putting together a 10-2 record against their conference opponents, and securing a spot as Co-Champions of the Suburban Conference Green Pool with Kirkwood. Notable performances include a 16-1 win over rivals Pattonville at home on Sept. 17th and an 11-1 and 15-0 win over Ladue’s first-team all-conference pitcher. However, the best performance was saved for conference rivals Hazelwood West on Oct. 1st, when the Huskies completed a 10-0, 1-hit shutout, taking our season record against the Wildcats to 4-1.

The season ended with a loss to Fort Zumwalt North in the first round of districts, however, the Huskies still had plenty to celebrate. The Huskies saw 9 ladies collect All-Conference recognition (Honorable Mention: Giana Fouche; Second Team: Calli Hodges, Le’mia Payton, Jaycee Durnin, and Kara Sampson; First Team: Tyler Frost, Grace Key, and Hailey Ebert; Conference Player of the Year: Leyla Payton). The Huskies also had four players collect All-District recognition (Second Team: Tyler Frost, Grace Key, and Hailey Ebert; First Team: Leyla Payton). Leyla Payton also received Second Team All-Region accolades.

The Huskies will look to build off of a positive 2024 season as they look to continue their winning ways in 2025.

Volleyball (Girls):

The volleyball teams overcame a challenging start to have their JV and V teams finish just under .500 while the C-team ended with a 6-21-1 record. JV finished 12-13-1 with a 3rd-place finish in the Ritenour Tournament. The varsity team finished 15-16-1 with a 3rd-place finish in the Ritenour Tournament and a 1st-place finish in the UCity Tournament. We also had some players break records at the varsity level. Senior, Sonya Nguyen, broke the record for most serve receives in a season with 570. Talia Jones broke the record for most assist blocks in a single season with 33 and most assist blocks in a career with 57. Sonya also earned 1st-Team All-Conference and 2nd-Team All-District. Talia earned Honorable Mention for All-Conference and All-District. Megan Weisz was the All-Conference Sportsmanship selection. Kailey Gens also earned an All-District Honorable Mention. As a program we continued the tradition of our annual pink-out game. Once again, we exceeded our total from the previous year. This year we made a $6,500 donation to Making Strides.

Golf (Girls):

It was a year of growth for the varsity golf team. With the team experiencing some turnover, juniors Sara Hernandez, Micheala Helton, and Evelyn Flores stepped up for the team filling the starting varsity lineup. Sara earned the team’s Most Improved honors. Maggie Bannester, the team’s only senior and playing in her first year, brought passion and personality to the team. She often competed against opponents’ top golfers. Junior Maggie Kunshek and sophomore Haley Berri led the team with stellar play. Both golfers medaled in the conference tournament and earned First-Team All-Conference honors for their consistently high finishes in conference matches. With a veteran team next year, the Huskies are primed to compete for the top spot in the conference next season.

zoom_out_map

The 2024 boys swim team had another winning season, finishing 10-8 overall. The team was made up of Sam Eyster, Jonathan Finizia, Devan Howard, Jackson Leong, and Noah McCuistion. Even with five swimmers, every meet was a battle that they approached head on. All season long, these resilient athletes worked tirelessly on improving their skills, strokes, and times. At almost every swim meet, they were dropping time and becoming better overall.

In the conference swim meet we finished 6th overall. Our Medley Relay team of Sam, Devan, Jackson, and Noah was second team all conference. Our 200 Free Relay team of Sam, Jonathan, Devan, and Jackson was honorable mention and our 400 Free Relay team of Sam, Jonathan, Devan, and Noah was also honorable mention. Jackson Leong finished in 6th place in the 500 Free and Devan Howard finished 8th in the 100 Backstroke. Our two seniors, Jackson Leong and Sam Eyster, will be greatly missed for their abilities as well as veteran leadership. Overall, we had a fantastic season filled with growth and progress. We can’t wait to see what next year will bring.

Fox Cross-Country

The 2024 Fox Cross Country season was met with many personal accomplishments. The first meet of the season took place at St. Vincent, where the boys varsity team took 2nd, with three runners finishing in the top 20 – Jude Lesko (14th), Ben Hilton (9th), and Ryan Redman (3rd). This established the groundwork for what would be a highly successful season for each of these athletes. Jude, the team captain, shaved nearly 2 minutes from that initial time, dropping from 19:37 to a career PR of 17:58 at the Conference Meet. Hilton established a virtually identical PR at Conference, finishing a tenth of a second ahead of his fellow Warrior. And 42 seconds ahead of them, with a time of 17:16, was Ryan. This day was filled with personal records – 14 in total across the board – and displayed enormous drops in time from the first meet of the year.

This sentiment of personal accomplishment held true for the girls team as well. Over the course of the season, Audrey Freeman (9) shaved off 6.5 minutes from her first meet, dropping her initial 5k time of 29:52 down to 23:18, cementing herself as the 8th fastest freshman girl in Fox history. Her teammates Kayley Greene (10) and Charlotte Freeman (11) also showed drastic improvements throughout the season. The highlight was Ganz Creek, where they each set career PRs. Additional athletes to recognize would be Ben Davis (12), Ella Fleshman (12), Nate Tolcou (12), and David Woodcock (12). Each of these athletes continuously set PRs – seemingly every meet. Paragraphs could be written on every athlete we had at Fox this year. It was a fantastic season and we will miss those athletes who are moving on.

Fox Softball

FHS softball improved our record over the 2023 season even after replacing 8 seniors with 6 freshmen and sophomores. The team earned 4 All-District Awards including a 1st Team Award by Freshman Makenna Johnson. The girls also faired well in the Conference voting securing 2 1st Team Awards by Makenna and Avery McKinnon. Rylie Fisher and Aleah Carter were also recognized by the conference.

Fox Girls Golf

The girls golf program enjoyed their largest numbers in the past 5 years. All 18 players had the opportunity to develop their skills and gain valuable experience. We look forward to 12 of the 18 players returning next year.

Fox Boys Soccer

Fox soccer finished the season 9-16 and tied for 3rd in conference (green poll). Finished in 3rd place in the Hillsboro tournament with a win over seckman. We had a strong defense this year leading to 15 of the games being decided by 1 goal. Drew Harris was named Goalkeeper of the year. Over Drews career at Fox he holds the record for career shutout and career keeper wins. Robert Fowler, Ryan Kettler and Owen Cook were named 1st team all conference. Reece Ameling and Conner Bradley were named 2nd team all conference. Caleb Sweeney received the sportsmanship award.

Girls Volleyball

The girls’ volleyball team had an immensely successful season having a record of 10-16, and 8-2 in conference play.

JenningsHighSchool

The 2024 fall sports season was a period of growth and progress for Jennings athletics. Here is an overview of our accomplishments and improvements:

Football

After a challenging 2023 season with a 1-9 record, our football team made significant strides this year, finishing the season 5-6. The team advanced to the semifinals of the district playoffs, where we faced a tough loss against Lutheran North. Additionally, athlete participation nearly doubled compared to last year, reflecting a renewed sense of commitment and enthusiasm.

Tennis

Faith Johnson represented Jennings in tennis and made remarkable progress. After not winning a single match in 2023, Faith ended this season with an impressive 5-5 record, showcasing her hard work and determination.

Volleyball

Our volleyball program showed notable improvement across all levels. The varsity girls finished the season with a 7-12-2 record, a significant achievement after going winless in 2023.

Soccer

In only its third year, our soccer program achieved its first victories, securing two wins this season. This marks a milestone for the team and a promising foundation for the future.

Softball

This was a rebuilding year for our softball team following the graduation of seven seniors from a successful 12-6 team in 2023. Despite a tough 2-13 season, the team demonstrated resilience and fought hard in every game.

Cheer Team and Band

Our cheer team and band brought Warrior Pride to life this season. Their energy and performances elevated the atmosphere at games, making them more exciting and enjoyable for our fans and players alike.

Looking Ahead

Overall, our athletic department is moving in the right direction. We are proud of the progress made this year and are committed to building on these successes as we prepare for the 2025 fall season.

Together, we are continuing to restore the pride, passion, and competitiveness of Jennings athletics.

Go Warriors!
