STEAM Academy at McCluer South Berkeley
The STEAM Academy at McCluer South-Berkeley had a fantastic Fall Sports Season. Almost every team had a winning record and we had numerous First Team All Conference Awardees. Our boys’ soccer team won their very first district playoff game with a 5 to 3 victory over Soldan with all five goals scored by Isaac Gates. This is our fifth season having boys’ soccer and they were winless in their first season. Still, the most amazing feat had to be an individual senior cross-country runner, Kyrah Anderson, who had not run since her state track competition in the hurdles during her sophomore year. In May of 2022, Kyrah was on her way to making it into the 300m hurdles state championship finals until an accident over one of the hurdles fractured her leg. She required several surgeries and missed her entire junior year of competition in cross-country, basketball and track. With the assistance of her doctors, coaches and athletic trainer, Frank Ginder, Kyrah was able to make her first run in October and followed that with a district appearance. Kyrah is our example of perseverance.
