Lindbergh High School
Cross Country
The Lindbergh cross country team saw some individual and team success during the 2023 season. The boys’ varsity team took home a first-place finish, and the junior varsity team placed second in the Northwest High School Last Chance Meet. The Sophomores placed second at the Jackson Invitational, while the Freshmen and Juniors finished fourth. The boys’ varsity, JV, and Freshmen all placed third at the Paul Enke Invitational. The Freshmen had another third-place finish at the Statesmen/Patriot Classic. Freshman Ben Donaldson ran the fourth fastest time for a Lindbergh freshman, finishing one race in 17:16. The team was led this season by senior Alvin Wible. The all-district runner qualified for the state meet, finishing with a program fastest state meet time of 16:07. He finished 47th overall. He ends his high school career with the third fastest time in program history. On the girls’ side, senior Elyse Doss was the lone state qualifier after a 23rd place finish at districts. Doss, along with sophomore Bea Smith, earned second-team all-conference honors.
Girls Golf
The girls golf team had its most successful season in 20 years, setting the program’s single-season wins record while finishing a perfect 10-0 on the year, 7-0 in conference play. The team finished as conference tournament runners-up. Senior Mila Snowert, juniors Reese Reinhardt and Audrey Scarpace, and freshman Madison Keating all were named to the all-conference tournament team. Senior Anna Schrage was named Sportsperson of the Year. Reinhardt and Keating were named to the all-conference first team, with Snowert and Scarpace being named to the second team. The team followed up the strong conference showing with a fifth-place finish at districts. Reinhardt, senior Brooke McKenney, and Snowert all qualified for state.
Girls Tennis
The Lindbergh girls tennis team, led this year by brand new head coaches Chloe McIssac and Zach Sias, finished the 2023 campaign with a 12-5 overall record and second place finish at districts. Junior Kate Davidson was named the Suburban Conference (Red Pool) Player of the Year, picking up conference singles and doubles honors. Her doubles partner, fellow junior Belle Daniels, joined her in earning all-conference recognition. The pair qualified for the Class 3 state tournament, finishing in seventh place.
Boys Swimming
The Lindbergh boys swimming and diving team sent a number of athletes to the Class 2 state swimming and diving championships this season. In total, the Flyers had three relays compete (200 yard medley, 200 yard freestyle, 400 yard freestyle) and four individuals. State qualifiers included senior Brett Ninneman; juniors Lucas Donze, Nicholas Turner, Colin Rowles, Ryan McCray; and sophomore Zachary Hallemann.
Softball
The Lindbergh softball team rode a 14 game win streak to a 23-8 record, the best win total in program history. The Flyers went 8-0 in conference play, winning a second straight conference title. Lindbergh was led by conference Player of the Year Allie Waldron. The junior was also named a first-team all-state, all-region, and all-district selection. Fellow junior Gabby McBride, the conference Pitcher of the Year, was also an all-region and all-district selection. Senior Nicole Thomas, junior Ava Hogan, sophomore Kristen Cochran, and freshman Marlee Steiner were also given postseason honors. Head coach Darin Scott was named conference Coach of the Year. The Flyers advanced to this year’s district championship game, falling to Jackson and ending the season with a runner-up finish.
Girls Volleyball
Girls volleyball finished the season with a district semifinal appearance and an 11-16-2 overall record. Three Flyers wrote their names in the team’s record books. Senior Carrie Maschmann broke the program record for blocks in a game with 11. Fellow senior Bailey Boehm finishes her high school career fourth all-time in career kills (674) and kills in a season (282). Junior Lily Breed moved up to fifth all-time in assists in a season with 621. Boehm earned first-team all-conference and all-district honors. Senior Willa Hollander earned a first-team all-district and second-team all-conference nod. Maschmann was given a second-team all-district nod and all-conference honorable mention. Junior Ellie Huckstep received an honorable mention at both the conference and district levels. Freshman Marlee Steiner earned district honorable mention honors. Steiner split time this season between both the varsity volleyball and softball squads, earning postseason honors in both sports. Senior Sam Yemm earned the conference’s sportsmanship award.
Football
The Lindbergh varsity football team ended its 2023 campaign with a 5-5 record. The Flyers had a few notable wins this season. A last second defensive play helped seal a 28-21 victory over Ritenour on homecoming. The following week, the team picked up a statement 28-24 win over rivals Kirkwood on the road. Seniors Owen Norman, and Victor Wheaton; juniors Carter and Connor Lanham; and sophomores Jackson Bailey, and Jack Hessler all earned second-team all-conference nods. Juniors Javonte Tiller, Cooper Saulka; and seniors Terell Watts and Tyler Westrich were named to the first team. Watts was also named the Suburban Red Special Teams Player of the Year. Senior Chris Marko was also the recipient of the Suburban Red Sportsmanship Award.
Field Hockey
The field hockey team finished the 2023 season with an 8-10-2 record. The Flyers fought hard all season, with shutout wins against University City, Antioch (Ill.), St. Dominic, Lutheran South, Ursuline, and Parkway South.
Boys Soccer
The Flyers had a phenomenal 2023 campaign, going 23-6 and winning the program’s fourth district championship in five years with a 4-3 win over top-seeded Vianney. A 3-0 win over CBC in the Class 4 state quarterfinals sent Lindbergh to its first state semifinal appearance since 2019. The Flyers would rebound from a 2-0 loss to defeat John Burroughs 1-0 in the third place game. It’s the team’s best finish since the 2019 season when they finished fourth at state. The Flyers also went a perfect 7-0 at home this season, and an impressive 10-1 in neutral site games.
Esports
Lindbergh Esports had a great fall season, with its Rocket League varsity teams finishing fourth in the region. The JV squad finished fifth. The 2023 Rocket League Varsity team is made up of Channing Bond, Salvatore Valencia, and Mason Doerr. The JV team is made up of Lucas Wagner, Evan Storie, Charles Boyd, Leo Martin, and Joseph Adlon. The Overwatch varsity team finished third in the region. They’re made up of Nate Ottens, Matthew Piccozzi, Kaylin Kim, Patrick Adams, and Nick Wightman. Overwatch JV was split into two squads, JV Green and JV Gold. Green finished as regional champions, with JV Gold taking third. This year’s Green squad is made up of Dylan Rice, Grace Karandjeff, Noah Kimbrell, Skyler Daubendiek, Tyler Gyuresick, Jon Kunze, and Alex Brossett. This year’s JV Gold team is Gavin Berry, Aidan Davitt, Sebastian Rosas, Alex Keating, Luca Egizi, Tucker Sloan, Daniel Orantes, and Geldimurad Akmuratov.
Band
The Spirit of St. Louis Marching band capped off its 2023 season by being named a finalist in the Bands of America Super Regionals, placing 14th out of 66 bands in 14 states. Following the marching season, 37 students participated in auditions for both the All-Suburban Concert and Jazz bands. 18 students were selected. Concert selections include Suzan Clinton, Sarah Jeon, Matthew Kim, Stella Boisclair, Hung Nguyen, Aidan Scheidenhelm, Ivory Kriegshauser, Aditya Dubey, Harper Tochtrop, Kyla Kent, Blake Smith, Sarah Peterson, and Grace Wollenberg. All-Suburban Jazz selections were Jackson Franck, Anthony Ostrovsky, Ben Koller, John Reifsteck, and Mac Saunders.
Orchestra
Orchestra students from LHS competed for a coveted spot in the 2024 St. Louis Suburban MMEA District 5 Orchestra. Nineteen musicians represented Lindbergh at the auditions, and all made an excellent showing! Lindbergh students will hold more than twice as many seats in the ensemble as any other school in the region, including 6 of 9 available leadership positions. Those students are Journey Mohn (concertmaster), Autumn Hayes, Beck Linton, Matthew Parsley, Abigail Phifer, Cecelia Hahn, Yuhan Wu, Hannah Wilkins, Anna Schrage, Melanie Migneco, Maxwell Harbuck, Nathan Staicoff, Abby Deeter (principal cello), Sam Crowe (principal bass), and Andi Heavey.
Yearbook
Yearbook staffers earned national recognition at the JEA/NSPA Fall Convention held in Boston, Mass., in November. The 2023 Spirit Yearbook placed tenth in Best of Show in the largest category (yearbooks 320-372 pages). This is the third year in a row that Lindbergh’s yearbook has placed nationally. The staff was also recognized with an honorable mention for 2023 Yearbook Design of the Year – Yearbook Spread for their Timeline Spread “made YOU remember.” Recognition in this contest places their yearbook design in the top 10 across the country. The staff is very proud of the 2023 Yearbook which also received an All-American rating from NSPA with four out of five marks of distinction and an All-Missouri rating from our state organization MIJA.
