Ladue Boys Soccer
Sometimes, it’s not how you start, but how you finish! The Ladue boys soccer team proved that and then some this season with their late season playoff run. After a season full of adversity, with players in and out of the lineup due to a variety of reasons, the Rams gelled late and made one of the most improbable, exciting post season runs in history. Ladue entered the post season with a 7-14 record and received the #5 seed in their district. After upsetting MICDS 6-2 in the first round of districts, the Rams had to face #1 seed Webster, a team who had just beaten them 1-0 about 2 weeks earlier. The Rams played a solid game and received a late goal to upset Webster and advance to the district championship. In the finals, Ladue faced Whitfield. The Rams jumped out to a 2-0 lead at halftime and looked like they were cruising towards a district championship. However, in the second half, the Rams received one red card with 36 minutes remaining in the half and another red card with 11 minutes of the game and found themselves hanging on for dear life. Down two starting defenders, Ladue did a great job limiting chances and while they conceded a goal with 4 minutes left, they managed to win the game and the district championship 2-1. Moving on to the quarterfinal round, the Rams played a familiar foe in Fort Zumwalt South, a team who had beaten them 3 times in the past 10 years in the quarterfinals or later in the state tournament. Down two starting defenders due to red cards from the previous game, the Rams had to turn to their depth to advance to state. Ladue managed a late goal to win the game 1-0 and move onto state for the 2nd time in 3 years. At state, Ladue cruised by Springfield Catholic in the semifinals 2-0 to get to the state championship game. They then had to face off against a great East KC team for the state title. The game was 0-0 at half but early in the second half, Ladue scored a goal. Unfortunately, the goal was called off which crushed some of Ladue’s momentum. Late in the second half, East KC scored a goal and then added a second goal less than a minute later. Ultimately, the Rams fell short of their state championship dreams, but still could be proud of the late run they had made.
Ladue Varsity Softball had a great year! They supported each other on and off the field while showing perseverance, kindness, and sharing much laughter – finishing the season 11-7.
We will miss seniors Arden Busker, Kayleigh McDonald, and Camryn Miller.
