Soccer Wins State Championship
The WGHS boys soccer program won the Class 3 State Championship on Saturday, November 19th. The Statesmen finished the season with a record of 21-3-3. This was their 5th district championship in the last 6 years, 3rd Class 3 final four appearance in the last 5 years, and their 3rd state championship in school history (2014, 2015, and 2022).
Four Statesmen were honored with Class 3 First Team All State Team including Oliver Doyle, Luca Zarky, Jonas Oesterli, and Branyon Heard. In addition, Oliver Doyle was named the Class 3 Player of the Year and Head Coach Tim Velten was named the Class 3 Coach of the Year.
Loving Wins 3rd Diving State Championship
Leading the way for Webster at the Class 1 Boys Swim and Dive Championships was senior diver Bennet Loving who claimed his third consecutive state diving championship. Bennet won this year’s meet by a whopping 136 points over the 2nd place finisher.
Junior Calum Shank won two state medals and set two new school records. He placed 7th in the 200 IM and 6th in the 100 Breaststroke while setting records in both events.
Other notable accomplishments at the state meet include Emmett Shank setting a new school record in the 500 Freestyle and the 200 Freestyle Relay team of Calum Shank, Dani Llompart, Emmett Shank, and Dominic Lee also set a new school record.
Allen is a State Medalist in Cross Country
The WGHS Boys and Girls Cross Country teams competed at the Class 4 State Meet at Gans Creek in Columbia on November 4th. The girls team had two runners competing in Sarah Staab and Parker Allen. Parker Allen finished in 25th place and earned a state medal!
The boys team qualified their whole team to run at the state meet and they finished in 6th place in the final team standing for their best finish at the state meet since 1970. Brennan Ulrich led the Statesmen in the individual standings finishing in 34th place. Other runners for the boys team included Corbin Cole, Max Kilstrom, Dominic Buckman, Jack Schneider, Henry Boland, and Joe Wetzel-Meehan.
Five Statesmen Sign Letters of Intent
Congratulations to five WGHS student-athletes who signed their national letters of intent on November 9th. The following students will play their respective sports in college next year.
