Cross Country
The Northwest cross country team ended their season last month (10/29) after sending one runner to the state meet at Gans Creek. This season has been monumental for the growth of the team. At the beginning of the season, the team was ready for big things to come; unfortunately, after the first few meets, it was blatant to see that the Lions were not as strong as they had hoped. The first meet set a solid (and slow) precedent that the Lions would hope to break for the rest of the season. After the first meet, the Lions traveled to Arnold to race in the Fleet Feet Classic 2-mile race. This race displayed the prominence of Michael Kershaw as a lead runner yet proved little change in the fitness of many other varsity runners. An important event during the season occurred in Joplin later in the season when Michael Kershaw broke the sophomore school record with an outstanding time of 16:35 in a 5k race. The lowerclassmen truly showed immense talent this season, finishing 1st in multiple freshman/sophomore races. Sadly, the varsity team could not make a sufficient score at the district level, and, for most of the team, the season ended in October. Overall this cross-country season displayed a new era of Northwest cross country. There are many strong lowerclassmen performances and the team only has one senior leaving this year.
Soccer
Our Northwest Lions Varsity Soccer team had a phenomenal season this year with many great accomplishments with a winning season with an overall record of 20 – 6. Our varsity boys had many accomplishments, such as having the best record in the Northwest program’s history. They had two players join the 100-point club, Senior Tyler Finder and Senior Stephan Pryk. They were the 2nd team to hit 20 wins in program history. They peaked as #4 in the state rankings and had two separate 9-game win streaks. Alex Drexler broke the program record of most wins as well as shutouts as a goalkeeper. The Lions were the top-scoring team in the conference, and Stephan Pryk led class 4 St. Louis schools in scoring. The Varsity boys had an amazing season being crowned conference champions and Parkview Showdown Tournament champions. The boys had crazy stats this season, scoring a total of 80 goals, only allowing 34, and racking up ten shutouts. Sadly our varsity lions lost a tough game to Jackson 1-0 in overtime in the district quarterfinals ending their season. Although they lost, they can always look back at this season as one of the best seasons in program history, with many accomplishments and an overall amazing team.
Softball
Your Northwest Lady Lions finished with a 12-19 record and unfortunately lost in districts to the Marquette Mustangs. Although the Lions season didn’t end the way they wanted to, they still had a lot of positive things to look back on. The Lions were led by two seniors, Lily Consolino and Ella Stichting. Lily finished the season with a .396 batting average, a 450 on-base percentage, and led the team with 22 runs batted in. Ella also had an impressive year finishing with a .352 batting average, a .391 on-base percentage, and 13 runs batted in. Also, the Lions had three sophomores who finished above a .300 batting average, Rose Consolino, Raegan Shelton, and Skye Comia. The Lions were a young team and had a lot to look forward to in the future years.
Football
The Northwest Lions Football team had high hopes going into this season. There were also a lot of questions to be answered after losing over 20 seniors last year and hiring a 3rd head coach in 4 years. Nobody knew how this season was going to go for the Lions this season. The Lions started the season off on the wrong foot facing the Sullivan Eagles and unfortunately losing 35 to 7, but there was a good thing to it Triston O’Toole scoring a touchdown. Things, unfortunately, didn’t get any better against Parkway South. The Lions were down 7 to 0 and had a touchdown scored by Senior Carter Lenzen and 2 point conversion to lead 8 to 7, but in the second, the lions couldn’t hang on, losing 32 to 14. Things did not get any better, losing 64 to 6 to Seckman, then getting shut out the next 2 games losing 49 to 0 to Lafayette and 41 to 0 to Marquette. In week 6, the Lions finally got on the Scoreboard with a touchdown by Triston O’Toole but couldn’t carry enough momentum to get the win. The Lion’s final three games of the season were a 44 to 7 loss to Parkway central, a 27 to 13 loss to Webster Grove, and a very close loss to the Melville panthers to close out the regular season. Going into the playoffs, the Lions did not have a win looking for it and had no signs of giving up. Facing the Marquette Mustangs, the Lions had a rough opening drive and were unable to find any momentum and, Unfortunately, lost 54 to 0.
Golf
The Lady Lions golf team this year was a very young team. The girls did not do as well as they hoped to this season. They played in four tournaments this year, and the best they did was come in 8th place at the Suburban Red Conference Tournament at Crescent Farms. Once again, the girls are a very young team with much room to grow. We can not wait to see them succeed in the upcoming years.
